i did pretty well today :)

the market was on and got a massive bag (bulging carrier) of mixed veg for £1 (carrots, cabbage, parsnips, swede, onions, courgettes, sprouts - total bargain :)), also got a carrier full of apples for £1 so thats my porridge sorted for the next 2 weeks, and some salad bits for under £1. got milk 50p for 1 litre at one of the local independants and cornflout and tomato puree and weigh and save. needed few extra lasagne sheets for tea so picked up a pack for 79p at the post office. reasonable, i thought. OH insisted on extra mature vintage cheddar for the sauce and wouldn't believe me that it was sold in the post office (and was on bogof!!) so he insisted on getting it from sainsburys. he even offered to pick up the other stuff and pay for it (he thinks my ideas are ridiculous!) but i stood firm :D

better toddle off and make the lasagne now!!

I'm getting the train to Rach's to go to that cheap market! (Ok maybe not cost effective but how annoying when they differ so much! ) A cabbage would cost you £1 here at the market, or close to it !!!! (oh and to steal some lasagne :D )
One day I might be more organised...........

I have no idea what is in the santa sausages but I have planned to have them for tea on wednesday so I`ll let ya know how they taste, wanna be extremely nice for that price.Already eaten the pork and leek ones and they were gorgeous,no fat came out of them either,I usually buy walls and they would be swimming in grease.Would definately buy the leek and pork ones again.

Not a great success today - I ended up back in lidls but I did buy as much as I could on high street. Think I may have to use Narberth as my main shopping town now as Pembroke & Pembroke Dock are no use, apart from veg & deli stuff.
On the plus side there was a nice cooking stuff (tins and like) shop in Pembroke Dock and I got some measuring spoons there - they do all sorts including klinger sp? jars and the ones with the screw on metal lids. Jam straining bags, enamel pie tins, special cake decorating tools it was endless.:D

Still Lidls was cheaper than Tescos and I now know where not to shop and know where to get anything I could imagine for the kitchen.

Felt quite depressed wondering round. "lose or use it" we've lost it!

Still I'm not giving in! Eventually I WILL manage without Lidls and meanwhile I'm not using Mr T's.

Rach you are soooooo lucky with your market - might be worth you setting up a veg box scheme:rotfl:

Just ordered from goodnessdirect to take advantage of the current promotion with free fruit and veg box with fresh orders over £35. Also to go on next months budget! Prices are higher than what I pay usually for meats but the free fruit and veg will hopefully make it worth it!

going by what you get with the amount of meat..for yuor money ... i dont think there will be much fruit/veg.........

hazzie123...... with the brands of sauasges in the supermarkets... even the so called low fat ones..... there is allways alot more fat that the ones from the butchers...

Ummmmmm excuse me for suggesting this:o They wouldn't have anything to do with Santas helpers (the ones with 4 legs and a red nose) perhaps? Might explain the price

I'm thinking that too CTC, does seem much more expensive than I usually pay, even for organic, but as usual I will try and if don't like won't try again. I have this rule of trying anything once!

Kscour, I never thought of that, venison is expensive usually.

Actually reminds me someone said there is a game shop, in the industrial estate near me just a couple of miles away, might have to see if I can find it

  • I managed to avoid all supermarkets. I'm still on the 'empty the freezer' month. Doing OK using al the frozen fruits. My trusty Kenwood food processor which I bought 21 years ago to make baby food suddenly gave up the ghost when making pancakes on Tuesday:confused: . I had to make crumble by hand:eek: that was a shock! A quick google search and I've found one on the net for the same price as I paid 21 years ago:rolleyes: on Amason.

Must plant my daffodil bulbs tomorrow - they are starting to flower from in the bag on the garden wall.

    Good night
