Hi Lisa
my DD's (and most of the rest of the school by the looks of it!) re-use the small bottles you buy water in - about 300ml size. They do eventually get a bit battered but I've yet to have one leak yet which is more than I can say for all the fancy ones I've bought in the past. They are also easy to fill up from the school's water machine.

On the subject of flour, I have otfen used this company,
http://www.wessexmill.co.uk/index.html
The service is good and the flour is excellent, the bread goes up like a rocket. I think the P&P is very reasonable at £3.00 for up to 30kgs of flour.

I'm struggling slightly with the giving up supermarkets for Lent. As promised I have not darkened the doors of Tesco, Sainsbury's, Asda or Morrison's - but in terms of actually taking up non-supermarket shopping I am in a bit of a mess. My mum was here visiting me over the weekend so I didn't get to do my normal weekly run to Lewisham Market where I normally buy fruit and veg. To stock up on basics while she was here, I found myself making 2 emergency stop-offs at M&S for bread and salad items
Anyway I'm hoping to check out the butcher near my office sometime this week - Wednesday perhaps (can't do it today as I haven't got a clue what I want or need; can't do it tomorrow as I'll be out for the evening and won't be able to take it straight home from the office fridge!)
I should still be able to stock up on fruit and veg relatively cheaply as there are about 3 markets between home and work (not as cheap as Lewisham but not as pricey as Borough!)Operation Get in Shape

After the revelations that parents would need to spend a quarter of a million pounds at Tesco for a school to qualify for 1 computer in the computers for schools promotion it has now been revealed that parents would need to spend 1 million pounds for their school to get a trampoline. Unsurprisingly, Tesco has yet to give away any trampolines!

Went into my local butchers today for the first time ever.
He was so helpful, just like so many others have posted about their experiences. I explained my giving up supermarket quest and he said he had noticed a definite trend to more people shopping at independent suppliers over the past year or so and getting fed up with the large chains.
The only meat we have in our house is chicken, bacon and sausages.
He stocks free range chickens and they cost anywhere between £5 and £8.
The bacon was reasonably priced, but it couldn't be guaranteed to be outdoor reared which is what I prefer to buy.
The sausages he makes on the premises looked good. He only uses shoulder or belly pork so it's better quality meat, 'no head meat or gristle' were his exact words. Yuck! They will cost approx £3.50 for half a dozen and he had some tasty sounding varieties.
He also sold cheese, but this was made with non vegetarian rennet, so no good for me. But then it is a butchers shop I suppose!
Free range eggs are 88p for 6 and come from a farm in the New Forest, so reasonably close.
I need to check out a local health food shop to see which vegetarian foods they stock and price them up.
Friday I'm going to have a thorough look around the market and see what I might be able to source from them.
Also need to visit a nearby family run wholesale business to see what cupboard staples I maybe able to get from them and items like loo roll and kitchen roll.
Also a large cheapy shop in town along the lines of Poundland stock some food items which I have never really looked at before maybe worth a mooch round.
Lots on my to do list and I'm really quite excited by it!...it is not of more importance than daily life, which I have an enduring wish to make as useful and beautiful as possible.

hi.... TKP......you are rebel no .....25.....welcome aboard:T
tinselfairy....sounds as though you have found a nice butcher....:T ..lets hope you find some more gems on friday......
competitionscafe..... it doesnt suprise me about the trampolines..........its just a marketing ploy to keep people loyal to tescos....... nothing to do with trying to help the schools.....as some else have said in the threads..... the school would be better off with a donation... or help in their school fetes etc.......
bargin rzl........ you are doing fine......little steps.....and as you say at least it wasnt tescos......i am still using the co-op for my high juice............
penny-pincher.....:D......
well my tescos points cam through today... so changed them on line for mfi vouchers........ and went to mfi with the £60. one i had left from just after christmas... so used it as a deposit for my oven... as my oven only came to £231. odd... and min spend was £250...( before 1st march) and i had £295 in deal vouchers..... the sa was brill made it up with other sale kitchen bits......crome bar with hanging wire rack things.. which will be great in the kids bedrooms for pots to put their penciland pens in etc......
i have been having hot/cold flushes.... looking at those extra point vouchers that come with them.... .....
but instead of selling them on ebay.. i put them in the fire........:T .....so now.....noooooooo temptation..... because of those points.....Work to live= not live to work0
