Hi Rach
I'm in Southampton, though a day trip to Bournemouth by train is looking appealing with all the bargains you are managing to find!...it is not of more importance than daily life, which I have an enduring wish to make as useful and beautiful as possible.

Just realised I am 1 week into this :j and so far have not had to go near Mr T, or Mr S or Mr A for that matter. Staying away from convenience food has helped loads, (read Not on the Label by Felicity Lawrence if you need any help with this - eyeopening stuff!) already feel we are eating better now. Today is a baking day, 1 wholemeal loaf, 1 batch welshcakes, 1 fruitcake and some home made soup. Still have lots in the cupboards and freezer. Our days are happier when we give people a bit of our heart rather than a piece of our mind.

Had a go at making tomato ketchup last night DD1 loved it DD2 didn't, typical!
But I put it in an old sauce bottle to store it in fridge and DD1 said something about that not being right and I explained that it was ok I'd steralised it and she gave me one of "those" looks, disappeared and came back with a huge sticker on which she'd written "Homemade". She didn't want HER tomato sauce getting mixed up with Mr T's! Sometimes its soo good to be the mummy who cooks:D0 -
I haven't been to the shops for food since last week so I thought I'd take up this challenge. I went to the local shops for some fruit and had a nice chat with the greengrocer, as I walked down the street I realised he'd over-charged me!
Went into the deli for lapsang souchong tea bags, (terrible things which mr chrisico loves,) when I got home opened and saw they were 2 months out of date I was a bit disappointed! I had the last box in the bin, fished it out and the sell by date on it was May 2008 so I don't like to think how long the 'new'box had been in the shop!
Not so good so far.
At the moment I shop at Lidl once a month for staples like pasta ,rice and chocolate (!) and have a veg box delivered once a week but I'm keen to move away from the major supermarkets in between times so I think I shall have to do some more shopping research.0 -
ksour while DD is at school swap the "homemade" label onto Mr.T`s bottle and see if she notices,I`ve done that with cereal and the kids never knew the difference.Debt Free Date:10/09/2007 :j :money:0

My Santa sausage just tasted like cumberland sausage, nowt flash and very salty. It was venison (Phoned the butchers this morning)and some herbs, but I wont be buying them again. They were too expensive and not all that impressive.
But it`s a case of trial and error and now I know.
Chrisico I`ve had that same problem too, went on a market stall to buy my son some little bottles of pop for his packed lunch(only time he has it) and picked up 5 flavoured fizzy waters, looked at the date and they ran out July 2006.The bloke was selling them for 45p too, never mentioned that they were out of date either.I check the date on everything.
It is annoying at first when things like that happen but I just see it as a learning curb and you will be more prepared for your next shop, but dont let it put you off.Supermarkets often have things on their sheleves what are out of date.Debt Free Date:10/09/2007 :j :money:0
