I've experienced the same problem with Halifax. Apparently they are withdrawing counter services for all Cardcash accounts. You can only use cashier if there is no ATM or automatic paying-in facilities in the branch. It's a right pain in the butt. I've opened an A&L account as these accounts can be accessed via the Post Office.

I had that, and I had to go into the fact that I have an OCD, and need a receipt that is stamped in front of the whole bloody bank!

I did have a few unkind words with their call centre that evening.

I wasn't really asking where Citibank's branches were ... it was more of a cautionary tail. Don't jump from one inconvenient provider to one that is totally inaccessible. (3 Branches in London, 1 in Manchester, wow!) OK you can use Lloyd's but for the price of an extra clearing day. Don't take your focus off the original problem ... you could only pay in through a box ... Citibank don't seem to provide even that.
I don't know whether Citibank are the best thing since sliced bread but folk here tend to get a little enthusiastic, sometimes with little justification and if your problem is lack of branch access, there's little point jumping on a bandwagon with no branches.

sounds daft that they won't take a cheque over the counter, but i just wanted to say that i have used those boxes in branches of natwest when i couldn't face the queue in a lunch hour (tried two branches because they were so packed then gave up!). the money went in without any problems, and was dated as having been processed the same day..... but this is obviously going to differ by branches and banks.

You should also see if a local branch has one of the new ATMs called immediate deposit or intelligent deposit machines, whilst they don't have the personal touch of counter service, these should be better than the drop boxes as they have the same clearing times as counter and should give you a receipt with a scanned image of your cheque (they also take cash note deposits). If you don't have one of these machines yet, I believe its in plan to fit more of them to other branches in the future so keep your eye out for them as a better alternative.

I work for hbos and was involved in some of the initiation work on cardcash and the deposit machines - I was amazed how little bad press coverage this got at the time of its announcement (about 18 months ago), I think I only came across one negative article

Most people on here are actually using the Citibank account because of them accepting people with defaults,CCJ's, bankrupts. If the OP is having problem upgrading their account, then this is probably the best way to get full banking facilities, if you know of better then it would be useful to share the knowledge.

You said that you weren't asking where the Citibank branches were, but your earlier asked exactly that.

No branches for most of the population granted(I live in the Midlands), but i'm guessing that most people will find their tele banking and online banking sufficient.

    It's called irony! ;-)

It was intended to get the OP and others to think about things before they jump for the wrong reasons. (Question: Oh, my branch don't work anymore ... Answer: OMG, move immediately to this bank that has none, that should get rid of your problem.)

Sorry, if I didn't spell it first time.

It didn't come across as ironic ... or even as rhetorical ...It sounded like a genuine question

The thing is that there were only two people that posted before you posted your 'ironic' question.

The first post suggested Citibank with a link to the thread to read, the other(mine)suggested Citibank and to read through the other threads about them.

Had the OP or anybody done this, they would know about the lack of branches in the U.K. and how to circumvent this.
