and it could be worse - our last cat flap had a disclaimer on the instructions that they couldn't be held liable if you couldn't keep raccoons out!

We are having the same problem, We have 2 cats but our neighbours have a black cat that is the bully of the locality. It comes in at night, I have tried everything, hitting it with a paper, hiting it with a slipper, kicking it up the backside as it goes out and last week I had to put on a pair of gloves and use a broom to get it out from under the table, then grab it by the scruff of the neck and hurl it 40ft down the garden, all the while it was hissing and spitting and this was at 3.30 am. The Bloody thing came back in last night,am getting well hacked off with it. Next plan is to set catflap on "In Only" and put a cat carrier behind it to trap the thing in. Then I will either give it a good soaking, or knock on our neighbours door at 3.30am and hand it to them or the final thing might be to take it on a "Long Ride" to visit a distant part of the british isles. Our neighbours have been no use with the immortal words "Dosent sound like him" when we told them. If anyone has any other ideas then I would be glad to hear them.

There is no magic solution to this age old problem......but,

    1. Buy another collar with the magnet on, and then take it and the cat to the vet and get the vet to fit it quite tight (tell him of the problem), the cat will NOT be a happy catty (sorry), but when the collar has been on for a week or so the cat will of accepted that it ain't coming off and will stop bothering it,

    2. Get a dog. :D . this will work 100% .......maybe borrow one.

    hope things work out..

Fab idea! I sense a sideline for Meg here! Alternatively my small son spends many a happy half hour poking his favourite cat pal through the catflap with a pink spoon....infants on patrol!
On a more serious note, our last magnets were the big heavy square ones and used to weigh the collars down - we now have Staywell ones which although are a bit pricey (you get the collar too though) are lightweight and round,so hopefully will last longer.

I assume these troublesome cats are un-neutered males? Why not offer to pay the owner for neutering them? That may make them embarassed enough to get it done themselves!

Could do with something like a paw print sensor or voice (miaow) activated sensor :rotfl:

I wonder if those devices they fit to pets so their owner can be found if pet is lost can be 'read' by any cat flaps?
  • I think it was the Verve who once sang, "like a cat in a bag, waiting to drown" in a song called "The drugs don't work".

Last resort but it's sure to work !

    Did I mention, I don't like cats ?
Just for one moment, thought I'd found my way.

We had the same problem - better since we got the magnetic cat flap though, but still have the same blasted tabby trying to get in. Had a couple of midnight cat fights inside which were a bit traumatic!

I've fitted an alarm to our cat flap which we switch on when our cat is asleep in the rest of the house and the kitchen door is closed so she doesn't set it off herself. Then any cat headbutting its way in gets a 100 decibel alarm in its ear :D

Try planting the Coleus Canina plant around the boudaries of your garden to stop them coming in in the 1st place . Also known as the Scardy Cat or Pee Off plant , they will be available from good garden centres from end of March / early April as they are not too good with frost .
My local garden centre informed me that they sold just over 1,000 last season and had only 2 people come back saying they weren't effective.
