Shelly - as always, I am amazed at that piece, it is just so lifelike :T

My 9 year old daughter has started cross stitch, and whilst she's only doing small projects at the minute, I was wondering if anyone had any ideas of what we could do with them when they're finished? I was thinking of perhaps making a couple of small cushions with them, but after that I'm pretty stumped.
Any suggestions would be welcomeSt. Francis said: “A man who uses his hands is a laborer. One who uses his hands and mind is a craftsman. He who uses his hands, and his mind, and his heart is an artist.”0 -
Wow Shelly - he's gorgeous. The colours are amazing.

The width is 11inches so the 8 inches is top to bottom. So one side is square or you flip it and have a smaller rectangle for smaller pieces of work.
Thank you. Is this what you use for all your projects or do you have another frame ? I am after something that is quite versatile and can be used for a variety of projects. i like the look of the sieta lapframe (which is similar) but double in price  Does the sewandso one sit quite comfy on your lap ?
For example, do you think you would be able to stitch something like
this on it ? and if not, what frame would you suggest. This kit appeals and I am sorely tempted but I'm not so sure about all that tatty ted backstitch ....
If you have stitched a tatty ted, is the backstitch really as bad as it looks?0 -
Thanks for the comments ladies
As I am stitching it the dark grey areas on the white don't look right at all. It's only when I look at it from a distance (like the update pic) that the grey looks right.lancs-lady wrote: »If anyone is interested, here is the link for where I'm upto with my "Angel of Spring" . I use it for everything - if something is too small to fit the frame (if I'm making coasters or the like) then I just hold the fabric in my hand. I used to have a floor frame but it was too bulky and a pain in the bum to turn it over to cut the threads when I had finished. With the lap frame you can just slide one side out, flip it over to the back and snip.
I sit it on a cushion on my knee rather than directly on my legs, it makes it more steady and raises it up a little higher so my posture isn't so slouched.
That kit you have linked to - 11" will be the width of the design so it would fit the frame as there should be excess fabric at the sides.
As for Tatty Teddy....I love the character, I don't even mind backstitch generally but I won't titch any more of them myelf because of the backstitchIf I absoulutely 'had' to then I would use evenweave because the stitch is between the holes on aida fabric.

loveeeee the tiger.
lovee tatty teddy but hate the backstitch so it always put me offloves how my "I've been censored" signature has been censored. LOL. Happy Christmas. :xmastree:0 -
The thing about backstitch is *some* of it's got to be quite precise - it is outlining and adding detail to your cross stitch...but some it can be kind of freehand.
I think the bits you're all saying put you off are those on the edge of the teddies - meant to represent the *furry* bits? If so - this is similar to a design I did a couple of years ago. I tried following the pattern, but got frustrated, so "made it up" and stitched the outer backstitch completely freehand. Still looks OK
