I have some of the old country companions kits and for the hedgehog prickles, they use two strands (of thread) but use two different colours. The newer hedgehog kits, I think just use the one colour. One of my first (largish) cross stitch efforts was a country companions design - its turned into a real mess and I keep meaning to start the project again!

I did the exact same thing! On of my first medium sized projects was a country companions one, and the hedghog prickles was a real test for a beginner.

FlatEric - After your description of the magazine I found myself drawn into WHS yesterday afternoon and somehow a copy of Cross Stitch Collection found its way into my hand ........
Haven't bought it for quite a while and was impressed. The cushion is lovely and quite unusual. It does appear to be only xs and bs but will IMHO look much better on evenweave than aida. With a design area of 39 x 41cm a 50 x 50 piece would be quite tight and you couldn't finish it the way they have shown. But you could make a cushion with a fabric border as the fabric can be stitched close to the design.

Hope everyone has a good idea with some quality stitching time

I've ordered the threads and will probably bite the bullett and order the bigger piece of fabric - I need to look at the website again as I did think that I might stitch two cushions as one will look odd on its own. but stitch the same design albeit in different coloured thread.

    OFF TOPIC
Beefe**er resturant kindly send me a voucher for my birthday to get a free main meal. (They have a new reward scheme) so the only conditions are that I need to produce the reward card, the voucher and go before the 19th July. Only problem is, I don't really fancy a meal out before then and it seems silly to go just to *spend the voucher* only the main meal would be free, drinks, sides, starters/puddings would be charged as approrpriate. likewise, I shall begrudge going next time and have no voucher to spend. What do you think I should do? file the voucher in the recycling bin??

    On topic

Here is my review of Cross Stitch Crazy issue 167

    Margaret Sherry free gift
These are cute but I have a feeling I have seen these designs before. (not as kits but as charts elsewhere?). If I was to stitch one, it would probably be the cat with the watercan. I am not in a hurry to do so though.

    Country Companions design
This is cute but I'm not sure whether I will stitch. I have a feeling I have this as a kit somewhere that I bought at a silly price on ebay? I'm not sure how they can say something is "exclusive" when it has been available as a kit previously?

    Letters page.
Don't like the fairy stitch of the month chart.

    Charlie Chaplin
Not something I wil stitch. Don't like the celebstitches. I don't see the point?

Bored of adverts for bras! want adverts for cross stitch!!

    50 3D themed Gift ideas

These are quite cool and I bought some memory thread with my xmas money which I haven't tried yet so might have to give them ago. (Probably the cat first).

    Must haves
have ordered the woodland chums bert badger bookmark :j

    Heart and Home
Do not like this in the slightest.

    Crazy for the weather
These are ok. not sure i would stitch however.

    Craft xtra
The finished piece looks much better than the chart design. Will save for a rainy day.

    Lets go green
Do not like these (the designs) but good idea for my stitching
on a bag idea so will investigate.

    Comfort and Joy story
    Not read.

    Fairy Stoires
    Dislike

    Crazy's Angels
Like the terramundi pot but not th e price! and you can use a knife sharpener to bash a hole in the bottomm to get the cash out, you don't need to smash the pot ! :rotfl:

    Right to sell letter
    Interesting!

    Angel of the month
like the idea of using tic tac boxes to store needles but not keen on tic tacs!!

    Garden Glory
These are nice but I think if I stitched, I would use three strands of thread as they look a bit washed out to me.

    Clever covers

    Not for me.

    Back to school
Like the cars but not keen on the dogs.

    Challenge Lucie

Nothing that I like this month. Might have to think of something I would like to see charted and send it in!

    Track it down

United in stitches advert. This is nice but not the price!

Also like the jazzy stitching piece but not something I would stitch.

    Grrr another bra advert

The Buttons - Bev, Nev etc
    These are naff.

    Next month

nothing I like. Think its time to cancel my subscription.

    Make more time to stitch

    Annoyed me.

Well I've just tried to subscribe to XS Gold and it won't let me. Its saying that the offer of £5.00 for 5 issues is not available to the UK! Has anyone else had any luck with it?

Anyway I'm going off on one here, and what I originally wanted to ask, was partly in relation to Louise's gorgeous earth design. How do you decide what to stitch next? Do you just browse Ebay until something catches your eye? I'm notorious for decision making and dither about until I decide I really like something and then its too late!

I really have no idea what I want to stitch next, apart from giving the Paul Horton designs a go. I just wondered where everyone got their inspiration from really.

Ummmm....I have no problems getting inspiration - my trouble is NOT going along with it!:o:o:o

When I get my X stitch mags I usually find one or two designs in each that I would like to do, plus plenty smaller designs which I plan on making for coasters, cards etc. I never get round to them all.

Generally I will look at something and think 'Oh, so-and-so would love that!' and I will work on deadline things first.
After that, it's whatever I love, and my DD who loves watching me stitch girly things.
Then there's requests from people - Olivers picture (done), RSS capbadge and coasters to be done.

THEN there are people on here who posts links to REALLY interesting sites (shame on you all) *cough*:o and I will find various other items that I want to stitch. (ie. Circe the Sorceress)

Earth was my own fault - I asked what masterpiece people would like to stitch, then started looking up paintings...then found Artecy which had earth on it - showed hubby and he loved it. Hence an extra project lol:rotfl:

I bought XSGold mags for the JE princess collection - haven't started them yet, need to complete other stuff first.

I tend not to browse ebay because that would cause more trouble...... :rotfl:

Reminds me of the famous ebay ad where someone's photo had their naked reflection in a stainless steel kettle.:rotfl:

It's amazing how an arrival of some stitchy stash can put you in a good mood for the rest of the day!

My first cross stitch kit was a CC i stitched it back in either 1999/2000, i remember having to go buy more green as i stitched the grass using 2 strands instead of 1, but only me & you lot know this ;) I stitched a few other pieces but didn't take pictures as it was before i had a digital camera and pc, i'm going home in a couple of weeks so will get some photos of them :)

It still looks a lovely picture nmm. Some of my earlier WTP stitched pieces are now hanging on my daughters bedroom wall so I still get to see them everyday. The one and only CC design I ever completed is hanging above me on the wall as I type in my kitchen so again, I see it every day and still feel proud of my accomplishment. The other two bigger pieces I stitched were Nancy Cole designs and are both on display at my Mums house.

Will post my review later of this month's cross stitcher.:j

In the meantime, I was wondering whether anyone would be interested in a thread called Time out from the Cross Stitch Cafe? I was thinking we could set up a thread where we could discuss whatever takes our fancy, perhaps set ourself challenges money/using up food/discuss the weather etc, just general chit chat? I love the Cafe but do feel guilty when I go "off topic".

Just an idea. Let me know what you think...

We are a really nice bunch in the Cafe :T and as much as I love mse, I do end up feeling reluctant to post in other forums because some people are quite rude and their replies less than helpful!

I also struggle to keep in touch/track with all the different challenges and threads.

    Evening all

Here is my review of Cross Stitcher - Issue 255

    Emily Peacock - Free Chart

This is pretty cool but to be honest, a tad overwhelming. I'm not sure if I would stitch it as its meant to be and would instead I think perhaps stitch them individually. Definitely a stitching project for a rainy day.

    Gone to the Beach

    I don't like this.

    Handmade with love

I like the tree sampler and have thought about stitching it instead of another project I had in mind for an anniversary card/gift but I'm short on time and don't have the energy. Also, I don't think its "quite right" for the people concerned.

The extra bits are also interesting and I might stitch these. I like the alphabet.

    Felicity Hall
    Not interested.

    First Class
This is ok but don't have a need to stitch something like this.

    Stitched with love.
These are ok. Will save the chart. Not sure I would do the project they have done however.

Advert for Cross Stitcher Handmade Cards
Grrr chartbook with recycled charts

    Strawberry Whip
    Don't like these.

    On the sea shore
Not sure about these. They are ok I suppose. The starfish is quite good but not sure I would ever stitch.

    Summer newsletter
Yay more Emily Peacock Letters and Grrr next time its the numbers. Thought I would be cancelling my subscription now it was the last of the letters!

    Seaside Retreat

Not sure about these. The Beside the sea one is ok.

    Neon Brights

Definitely a no no for me.

    A taste of Morocco

    Not sure about this.

    Around the world

These are fab :j:j:j Like, Like Like.

    Savvy stitcher
Not sure about? will have to investigate. looks complicated.

    Crossword
    Solved :D

    Happiness tropics
these are ok. like the yellow minivan, not too sure about the others.

    Next months
    Nothing that really appeals...

Have to agree about this months Cross Stitcher magazine, I spent longer looking at the adverts and found more designs I liked in the adverts than in the magazine.

booo hoooooo hooo sob sob sob

sorry I'll catch up in a bit.

New laptop went bang last night and now i have no files nothing that i had transferred over!!! (managed to exchange for a new lappy today but being Argos no offer to recover files)

now sat trying to install stuff onto new lappy while downloading a free recover all programme onto the older one (before the last one) to see if i can recoveranything at all.

did i see an idea about a chat thread while skim reading - sounds fabby idea.
loves how my "I've been censored" signature has been censored. LOL. Happy Christmas. :xmastree:
