I guess I am technically a newbie as I've hardly posted in this thread, but in my defence I have been reading since the olden days, just not contributed. I find it hard to keep up in terms of posting - the conversation moves so quickly so I tend to just read and look at people's progress photos rather than commenting. I hope that doesn't make me a post'n'run member!
Hopefully I can post some update pics soon (although I think I'm still below the post threshold!) - I've got 3 pieces in rotation, for when I'm at mine/my boyfriend's/my parents', so I'll try and get photos of all three!
For now, here's a list of projects (apologies for lack of proper links...):
At my flat (pressie for my mum):
Bothy Threads - A Dictionary of Cakes
At my BF's flat (christmas pressie for his parents): Maia Vase Silhouette
At my parents' house (I'm aiming to stitch all 4 seasons to put up in their living room):
Derwentwater Designs - Four Seasons - Spring0 -
LittleMonkey - you're not a newbie if you've been here a while whether reading or posting.
I'm getting ready to start my first cross stitch project in a while (have been doing some knitting). Does anyone know the conversion from Crescent Colours into DMC for 'Queen Bee' and 'Secondhand Rose'? I've managed to find conversions for all the other colours that I need, but I can't find anything for either of those colours.
EDIT: I've figured out why I can't find a conversion - they are variegated colours. if anyone has any advice then I'd be grateful, otherwise I'm going to gather together the rest of the palate of colours and try to pick the best orange and pink to go with the other colours.0 -
Could you do a blend if the DMC variegateds don't match up?Do not meddle in the affairs of Dragons, for thou art crunchy and good with catsup

I'd probably do what you've suggested and just pick the closest colour and if I couldn't get a close match I'd blend like The Dragon says.
Was hoping to get Mum's birthday card done this lunch time but I left the threads at homeOh well, will finish it later and post a piccy!
Hope everyone's getting on well with their stitching!Cross Stitch Cafe Challenger No. 26 :hello:XStitch to do list:-- Birth Sampler -- Christmas Angel -- Mum's Xmas Stitch -- Christmas decs 3 & 4 -- Xmas Bird ---- Snowflake Sonata -- Be Jolly -- JE Unicorn -- Start HAED!!! --0 -
Turns out that even though I have about half of the DMC colours I only had one of the ones that I need so I've just picked different colours for all of them. My project is a Lizzie Kate alphabet so I figure that as mu colours all look nice together it won't matter if they aren't the same as the chart says.0

elliep - that sounds my sort of luck. I can almost guarantee that I wont have all of the colours I need. Last time I needed 5 colours out of 25ish so not too bad. I'm sure the alaphabet will look good in the colours you choose and no one will know it's meant to be stitched in other colours.Cross Stitch Cafe Member #59 :j

Elliep - I'm sure it will be fine. I didn't have any DMC threads on the last Lizzie Kate I did, but as her work is kind of blocky and not 'true to life' I didn't find it a problem. Which one are u going to do?
-- I really don't think Chicky was getting at readers or 'lurkers'... Please don't worry little monkey, any one else. I'm sure a lot of us lurked before getting brave enough to join in, I know I did!
I think chicky just meant 1 timers who just request, ignoring the advice in post 1, using and perhaps abusing our good will.
So anyone engaging in the conversation, or still here reading whether joining in or not, can't be one of those!Relax, Breathe, Love 2014 Challenges:Cross Stitch Cafe Challenger 23. Very tempted by it. It's cheaper than other places although postage is £3.99. They do offer 10% off the first order if you register for their newsletter.
Now off to do another drag on the dragon.Cross Stitch Cafe Member #59 :j

As promised, here is Mum's birthday card, all finished :T ;
Also 2 Christmas decorations I did earlier in the year that I don't think I ever posted;
They're mill hill kits on perforated paper.
Good luck with your alphabet elliep! Do you mind linking it? I've found yet another project, going to do my nephew's name in the monster alphabet from WOXS and am looking for a girly one to do the same for my nieces.
23rdspiral - couldn't have said it better myself!
