Pope condemns 'superficial glitter' of Christmas season

I'm suprised of so many negative comments here. What exacly Pope did say wrong? Asked "to se beyond the glitter"? And? Is it so upsetting? He's head of the Catholic Church, after end of the day. If you're not a Catholic or disagree, don't listen, simple. If your work mate said something like that, would be so upsetting too?0

I don't really care what he has to say but IMHO prohibiting the use of contraception to stop unwanted children being concieved and then prohibiting the abortion to get rid of those unwanted children is ridiculous. He also had the opportunity to make the Catholic church unhomophobic but again did nothing. You would think someone who had the power to change things (Catholics believe he is infalible) positively would, instead of holding up traditions which seem out of date.:j Tehya Baby DD 22/03/2012 :j

Pope already accepted use of condoms, what in Church is revolutionary .VikkiiKawaii wrote: »I don't really care what he has to say but IMHO prohibiting the use of contraception to stop unwanted children being concieved and then prohibiting the abortion to get rid of those unwanted children is ridiculous.0 -

No he hasn't.
'The Pope's attitude towards homosexuality and artifical contraception has not shifted, with other passages in the book reaffirming the Vatican's opposition to both.'

The only use of it he has truely accepted is it's use by prostitutes to prevent HIV and even then he said that condoms are "not really the way to deal with the evil of HIV infection".
He also still overules every other method of contraception and as I said is still completely homophobic.:j Tehya Baby DD 22/03/2012 :j

Homophobic? In which meaning? He won't allow gay people to marry? He won't, because it's against Catholic beliefs.
And condoms are not the way to deal with AIDS, they don't give 100% protection.0 -
I'm not a Catholic and have a problem with some of their doctrine and certainly don't believe the pope is infallible or has a direct line to God. However on this I agree, we need to see beyond the over-indulgence to the birth of Christ which was the greatest gift mankind has ever known.Lost my soulmate so life is empty.
I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have -

Not allowing gay people the right to celebrate their union is homophobic, especially as in England couples who are unmarried don't have the same rights as those who are. Therefore he is preventing them from enjoying benefits that 'straight' married couples completely take for granted.
I accept that condoms ARE falible but he is more or less suggesting that they should not be used as they won't change anything when in fact they are 98% effective in preventing STIs and unwanted pregnancy.:j Tehya Baby DD 22/03/2012 :j

Who can marry whom is a state matter, not the decision of the Catholic church. They can prevent same-sex marriage in a Catholic church building, but this in no way affects the benefits of a couple.
You may find their views homophobic, but that is a different matter.0 -

so you find it much easier to totally ignore the fact that it was a pagan holiday to begin with ? you seem more concerned with it not being the fact that it was the day Jesus was born ...0 -

Yeah, because prayer is so more useful for feeding your three surviving children out of 9 when you're an African woman with a dead husband and nothing to sell or trade other than your body.
Far better to hope that suddenly every single user of prostitutes, every rapist, every man who has ever remarried, every woman forced into marriage, every man, woman and child who has contracted this terrible disease suddenly stops and decides they aren't going to do anything but sit and wait to die. (or be miraculously healed, at anyrate)I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll
