Was he wearing his best dress when he said that?
I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.
  • I think the "glitter" he is referring to is the commercialism of buying loads of presents and being more occupied with presents decorations lights santa etc than remembering that Christmas is celebrating Jesus' birth and his existence, and I agree with that sentiment. People are so obsessed with getting the latest gadgets and spending a fortune than appreciating Jesus at Christmas.

It must be terrible for him, sat in his glorious palaces, surrounded by beautiful art and gold and treasures, to think of five year olds living in council flats in Bermondsey wondering if they have been good enough to get a visit from Santa this year. My heart bleeds for him and his terrible deprivation and suffering.

After all, even the baby Jesus in the cow shed was brought gold, frankincense and myrrh. A bit more expensive than the average catalogue balance, wasn't it?
I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.

Oh do get a grip. All young people in Germany at the time were enrolled in the Hitler Youth.

I am not a Catholic, but untrue and bigoted posts about anyone make me

Actually, none of pixies' post is untrue. He is a hypocrite, the catholic church is rich, we did spend millions on his trip here, and he was a member of the Hitler youth. He was also the head of the Inquisition before he became pope, although it's not called that now.

He's as daft as a brush if he thinks he and his cardinals and bishops can stand there covered in artificial, and some not so artificial, glitter and moan at the rest of us about it and expect us to take notice.
.................:)....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

You have no right whatsoever to tell me to get a grip , I am entitled to my opinion & didn't say anything that was untrue!!!

He undoubtedly doesn't expect you to take notice. Presumably you're not a Catholic; why would you take any notice? Do you listen to every message of every religious leader?

He was addressing a Catholic mass. His message was addressed to them.

Your post was phrased as to indicate that we shouldn't have invited him to this country because he was a member of the Hitler Youth (probably among other reasons). I apologise if you didn't mean that, but I really don't understand what relevance that membership has to anything. He was automatically enrolled in the organisation.

If you were his age at that time, you would have been a member too. So it's true to say that pixie76 would have joined the Hitler Youth. It's a pointless and irrelevant point though.

I have no particular like or dislike for the pope, but stating his membership of the Hitler Youth as though it was something terrible in his past is just ridiculous.
  • I don't have a problem with the pope as a person, just all organised religions. When they make an annoucment they are selling all the land , buildings and works of art they own and doing something positive I will take an interest.
I agree Christmas has become a greed fest. But, who is to blame for that?
Don't agree that its all the bankers fault the way society has gone, far too simple to blame one section.

The man is a hypocrite & I was trying to show examples of this.I was not saying he should should have came to our country, but I did not agree to the estimated £20million we had to pay for his visit.

And if I was his age at that time I would more than likely be in a concentration camp not part of the youth movement- I am Jewish! I said nothing that want pointless or irrelevant, although you are entitled to your opinion...
