Vulnerable household Scheme!

Hi everyone - hope I'm not repeating someone elses good work but didn't want anyone to miss out.

I read on another forum that some water companies offer a percentage off the bill in certain circumstances so I decided it was worth dropping an email to my company - severn trent.

They sent me an application form and because I have 3 children and claim tax credits my application was successful. I got their reply last night to say "this will take effect from 22nd Sept 06 and will cover charges for the 12 months up to Sept 07, at this time we will remind you that you need to reapply, Bills will continue to be issued as normal but you will not be charged more than the average household bill, currently £301.00 as from April 06".

YIPPEEEEE - my last bill for half a yr was £276 so I will be saving loads and felt it was important if only one person benefits from my thread I'll be happy. I would presume most companies offer something you just have to ask!

Maybe I forgot to say I'm on a water meter though I'm not sure if that is relevant or not. The best thing to do is send an email to your company as I did saying about the sceme in Derbyshire and asking if there is anything similar in your area - I'm sure they don't avdertise these things but I would suspect most if not all comanies will have something - Good Luck!

i think you need to be on certain benefits to get this i applied to my water company and i too now get the capped rate which is currently £258 a yr which is loads better for me as the rateable value for my house is £378 a yr.

i am with thames water and they do do a scheme.
  • This is a scheme that I think all water companies have just the larger ones promote it more than others. It's a government run scheme.

Bascially if you have a water meter and either have 3 kids or a medical condition which requires you to use more water AND you are on certain benefits you can apply to pay a capped charge.

Definately call up and check cos it can reduce your bill
  • I just mailed them as there was nothing not my local website either
