Hi apologies if this or something similar is already posted i had a quick look and didnt see it.

Basically i am in a 24 month contract with 3 which now has 8 months left on it on the one plan £35 a month. This is using the HTC Desire which came as part of the contract, at my previous address it was all ok.

A few months ago i moved address and downstairs there is no signal whatsoever and upstairs you only get signal if you stand in the right spot and even then its quite regular to get cut off. If you need to ring customers services for something you cannot achieve it on the mobile as it will almost certainly cut out or they wont be able to hear you or you wont be able to hear them at some point and then you would have to start all over again.

The lack of signal means i miss some calls and text messages which can be frustrating and making phone calls can be very hit and miss sometimes being cut off every minute or 2 if stood in the right place.

Anyway i put up with it for a while but recently I emailed three initially and have since rang them (on the home phone) and having last spoke to them and explained it all i was told the people who can cancel my contract will contact me they have just contacted me and they have given me a few options:

  • They wanted to give me a £6 discount on my contract but just stay on the same contract but at a cheaper price to reflect m poor signal so whilst its cheaper its not solving the problem at all

  • They also offered to take me down to the lowest contract at £19 a month for the rest of my contract but with a much lower allowance calls and text etc but again it doesnt really solve the problem

  • The other 2 options were to pay £100 to cancel and send my HTC Desire back to them also

  • or to pay around £200+ to cancel but i can keep the phone

(The figures i have given are approximates based on what i remember so not 100% but near enough)

I accept that whilst its not thier fault that i have moved house it is also not my fault they cannot provide me with the service i pay for so i feel they could of compromised a bit more.

I have asked them to email me with my options in writing and to also give me a call back next tuesday whilst i think it over. if i get the email i will add the details they have given to me in writing on here.

I was hoping i would be able to cancel my contract for less than £100 and returning the phone and dont think the reducing my contract or just taking a discount makes much sense as i dont intend to use the phone anymore as its too frustrating at my home address.

I have taken out a new contract with vodaphone with the HTC Sensation phone and purchased sure signal which should arrive on Dec 27th so fingers crossed i will actually have a phone i can use at home so its just a case of trying to escape three in the cheapest way possible

ps i bought my new contract at topcashback so got/will get £132.31 cashback so maybe that will just end up paying to get out of my current 3 contract at worst case scenario perhaps i should of put my referral link on here but thought might be a bit cheeky on m first post :P

Thanks anyone who can offer any advice

cheers

I would take them up on the £100 'out' fee, and have done with it.
You already accept that it's not 3's issue that you moved etc., and as you've already taken out another contract, the longer you leave it, the more it's going to cost you with 2 contracts running simultaneously.
I think they have been more than fair, and an 'effective' 3 month penalty to cancel is IMO a great offer.
My opinion...pay it..send them the phone back and thats the end of it.

hi thanks for the quick reply also just to add i moved from one side to the other of a small village
not that it makes a huge differerence i suppose
  • Pay the £100 and send the phone back that way you can get a new contract and new phone right after, sounds like a good deal to me.
  • Alternatively, go into Connection settings and force it to use 2G only and see if it works then.

They stopped the deal with Orange sometime this year, they now have no 2g signal whatsoever
  • 3 haven't turned off 2G everywhere, only where there is good coverage. Where I live 3 is on one bar or less. Occassionally it'll jump up to full signal strength. The nearest 3 sites are 3 miles and 10 miles away. I set my phone to use WDCMA/GSM Auto
