Christmas Eve OS Daily Saturday 24 Dec

Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Saturday 24 December (Christmas Eve!!!!!!). This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

Morning everyone - Christmas Eve and I've been up since 4!!
Felt like Santa yesterday as I gave all the things out of our loft to a family who don't have a lot. We didn't need them and I wasn't giving away family heirlooms. I also put in a jar of chocolates and some chocolate bics and gave them a cot that I got from ebay for under £10. They've just found out they're expecting their 7th. And yes contraception was being used. Made me feel very christmassy anyway and helped clear out our loft - everyones a winner!
Today in the household will be hectic - cleaning (the last few bits and then the animals will all have a bath - que laughter and many swear words!!!), and then when the children are in bed I'll watch White christmas whilst I prep the veg. But having just checked my turkey that I got out of the freezer yesterday we might all be having baked beans! Just popped in the (turned off) oven as I have to protect it from the cats and dogs. Cross your fingers its defrosted by tomorrow!!!!!
to those in need, feeling a little low or just wanting one. Feel free to PM me and rant if needed - am all ears to everyone to help get through the festivities! I am one of the English sexy Shelias
I'm also a hussy0 -
I'm glad I'm not the only one up at stupid o'clock, a bad back (wihich is now in its second week) a pulled muscle and a broken rib
ache got me out of bed. Its mending nicely but sneezing reminds me that it still early days (ouch)
Sat here hoping this hot water bottle might help,
It costs nothing to be nice, my favourite local charity is a Homeless Project, every time I go shopping I buy a tin or packet of something and build up a box of stuff, buying it with my shopping I dont miss the couple of quid each time, but would if I bought a hamper for £50 or so. When its reasonably built up I drop it off and they are very grateful. Same with winter clothes, and even down to household stuff for those lucky to be able to move on from being homeless.
Thank you for the hug, gratefully accepted and answering your post has taken my mind off the dull ache for a few minutes.
Merry Christmas to you and a very happy New Year.
Anniemake the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
Morning all,
Up at 4:eek: full of good intentions, then decided to just take a peek at the boots online sale..........:o Errrm at least I have lots of lovely half price prezzies on their way for next years birthdays etc
I better get my bum into gear and get the gammon in the SC before baking off later - YS turkey breast and duck out of freezer last night - will leave them to fully defrost today.
Buffett style eating all day - no alcohol till the evening though, or might regret it tomorrow:D
Will be upto my ears in vegetables today like many of you - actually getting that Christmas feeling now:j:j
Have a fab day all and a cool yule (DS2's words - see I,m down with da kidz:cool:) xxx
Edit to say - Mcneff - what a lovely thing to do - our house is upside down with building work at the mo - but one of my new years ressies is to donate anything of use we don,t need any more to relevent charities - as you say a bit of effort cost nothing xNote to self - STOP SPENDING MONEY !!
£300/£1300 -
Morning All
McKneff - What a lovely idea re the box of food - hope the back improves - have you tried arnica gel? very good for aches and pains
Well I laid awake from 4:45 thinking about what I had to do today and in the end got up an hour later to just get on with it! ~So I've cleaned the top of the fridge, got a pot of fresh coffee on the go, turkey breast joint in the slow cooker, veg soup on with DH's nannys gammon stock which meant I could could mine in coke :T so that's on too.
finally finished wrapping the pressies last night and I'm slowly working thru my 'to do' list. DS1 is going for his haircut (he's at the barbers already and said its packed!) then he's coming over to mop the living room hall and kitchen for me - he does it with far more energy than I could muster!
Going to give the kitchen a good scrub now so when I've finished all the prep it will just need a quick tidy....thats the theory anyway!
DD has been coughing all night so just hope her cold doesnt spoil things for her
be back later xClimbing back on the OS wagon after a short vacation to Recklessness

Love your smilies emsf
Do you mind if I steal them for later?
We cooked two hams yesterday. I wanted to cook one, then do the other next week. Mr tru wanted to cook everything at once "It's cheaper to do that, we only have to put the oven on once". Errrmm yes I know that, thank you. We only have one large roasting tin, and a range-stylee cooker - so three ovens that are narrower than normal. He went out to pick up a present and said he'd buy another tin from the co-op. I thought he'd be back in about an hour. The co-op didn't have any and determination must've kicked in - he went everywhere. It hammered down with rain so the dip under the railway bridge filled up with water in Tredworth Road and the traffic was bad. Then someone got trapped under a bus in the middle of town so that road was closed - it was an elderly lady and she may lose her foot
He rang me while queueing to get in Asda, I told him not to bother and come home but he wouldn't. He eventually got into the shop, found a tin and went back to the van. He took him 40 minutes just to get out of the car park. Just as well he didn't go to Sainsburys - people were queueing for an hour and a half to get out  He got home having bought the biggest tin he could find, put the ham in it, went to put the tin in the oven and it was too wide :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: So he had to put the other oven on as well and put the tin in sideways. His 'save a bit of money' didn't save him anything - in fact it cost him because I won't use the tin again, and it also cost him 2 and a half hours :rotfl: I, on the other hand, was in the house surrounded by twinkling Christmas lights and scented candles, watching Christmas specials of Warehouse 13 and Haven. Then we watched Elf, which he actually had time for, lol.
Last night at gone 8pm he decided we should start banging nails in the walls to hang some pictures, then had a strop when I said no. He tried to apologise by sending me cute animal videos on FB but I ignored him :snow_laug
Oooh I've rambled on a [STRIKE]bit[/STRIKE] lot there
On to today. We've got family coming round so in about an hour I'll start getting the food ready - small jacket potatoes, sausage rolls, mini pizzas, etc - all the usual party food. The beer, cider and wine are out and ready. Oh and the juice, my nan loves OJ and lemonade. The food'll be ready early so I can have some wine before they all arrive. Wonder if the kids will do their usual - wait til my dad has fallen asleep then get the tinsel out and decorate him :rotfl:

Ohhhh... today is the start of Christmas

We are up early, because it's traditional to watch 'Santa Clause' the 1985 movie before Christmas, and I forgot to get it from my mum, so we are watching it on the TV at 9.25am! So have to get showered and dressed and sorted by then
11.30pm we are Skyping friends in Norway and opening our gifts from each other (they celebrate today, and as I am half German we always open something on Christmas Eve too!)
Then this afternoon DS wants to make fresh mince pies for Santa
I am so excited (DH says I enjoy Christmas more then my DS does!!!)
I am feeling better today (I will try not to overdo things)... yesterday I ended up at the day unit because Roo decided to stop moving for hours! And I was 'Out of it' and so lathargic. When they got me on the monitor Roo's heart rate was elevated for a long time... so I ended up on there for longer.
Anyway, once Roo started moving the heart rate dropped and things steadied out, and suddenly the fog on my brain started lifting too. DH was so surprised to see the correlation I kept telling him about.
They think it might have been caused by low blood sugar and dehydration (I was sick the night before) and because I wasn't well I didn't eat very much yesterday morning. They told me Roo's elevated heart rate could have been caused by that.
Just have to wait for some test results (They are checking my blood... not sure what for... iron was one of them! My urine had protein, 2 markers and blood in it (TMI)... and since it was warm in the hospital I got flushed so they were worried I might have an infection!)
Last night DH made sure I ate well when I got home (Medium GI food too for a blood sugar boost) and sent me to bed early, and this morning I feel so much better (Even though I didn't sleep well!)
Roo is moving about and i think trying to say Merry Christmas to everyone on the Old Style Boards

All veg prepped.
All presents wrapped.
All stockings filled.
All shopping done.
House all clean, decorated and sparkly.
All pigs fed and ready for take-off.
Today began at 5.27am and will end at about 1.00 tomorrow morning, when, hopefully, there will be time to sleep for a couple of hours before the Real work begins.
Don't be fooled, I LOVE it.:):):)
However you're feeling and whatever you're doing try to enjoy today.
JulieG: are you still with us? Just keep off that trampoline.
Computer games will crash, even cashmere jumpers will wear out, and golf clubs will get lost. But the gift of love will endure for ever.
Happy Christmas!I believe that friends are quiet angels
