Steamy windows

How old is the Ka? Does it have the heated front screen that are fitted as standard on all Fords now? If so switch it on for a short time and that should help.0

You may have a leak somewhere. Check under the carpets for damp.
Other than that, as has been said Air Con etc should help. Or if its really bad, heater on max (blown at windscreen) with the windows open an inch or two. Should evaporate the moisture and blow it out the windows.0 -
Lots of cars get condensation on the windows. Some quite badly. Assuming there is no fault, then the following might be helpful...
condensation happens when warm damp air hits a cold surface. The warm air can hold quite a lot of moisture, but when it hits the cold surface the moisture is forced to condense out of the air at that specific spot.
To deal with the problem, you can either cool and dry the air, or heat the surface.
Often the moisture problem is mainly coming from your breath, so that's why switching off recirculated air sometimes helps. Or cooling the air can help, because less moisture is suspended, but it's not ideal because it keeps the surface cool.
Heating the surface is normally the best way to actually resolve the problem, because it stops the condensing action. So turning heaters up but focusing them on the screen (or making use of a heated screen) is the way most people resolve things.
Already-condensed water you'll just have to mop up.0 -
Hi Guys, thanks for all the replies!
Well I had to have the thing apart the other day to fix something and found that the washer tank was leaking under the scuttle. I also found the air filter box had become disconnected from some of its pipework and was sucking in air from behind the radiator. Fixed both issues and so far no steaming windows! It used to do it every day and we'd be sat in it freezing our butts off but now we can put it straight on the highest temperature and no steamy windows
Thanks all for your help. I'd also like to thank the mods for leaving this in the wrong forum even though I was in motoring when I started it and then requested it be moved there.0 -
I've been having this problem in my astra, constantly wiping the windscreen off when driving! will try looking at the settings as others have suggested. glad you found the source of yours and are now sorted OP.0

After wiping the moisture off the screen, don't leave the wet cloth behind in the car when you leave. The moisture will just go back into the atmosphere when the cloth dries, ready to condense the next time round.0

I've heard that opening the windows for the last bit of your drive lets the moisture filled air escape so that next time you're less likely to steam up. don't know if it works, but it's worth a try.Murphy's No More Pies Club #209

Some good suggestions here but what I couldn't help but think all the time this kept happening, was that this would never have happened when it was a new car. People buying a new car wouldn't tolerate it steaming up within seconds of you getting in and turning on the heating.
Then I remembered something.. A friend of mine once said that you should always keep fallen leaves off the scuttle as the blower motor will suck moisture in off them. Having recently fixed a leak on the washer fluid bottle (which was leaking in under the scuttle) and also finding the air filter sucking in air from behind the radiator, I can only conclude that there is something in this. If anyone else is suffering this then your cars must be sucking in moisture from somewhere.0 -
