Steamy windows

Hi guys,
This one has been plaguing us for a long time and I never thought about asking on here until tonight...
OH has a ford ka. I know, a few of you are probably cringing at the thought but its what we have so we make do. Anyway the windows keep steaming up in the cold weather and the only way to clear them is to turn on the heater blower with it on the coldest setting.
I thought the idea of a heater was that you could have heat?
What are we doing wrong?

I kept the windows clear in my Ka by turning the Air Con on."If you think it's expensive to hire a professional to do the job, wait until you hire an amateur." -- Red Adair0

Is there a setting with a picture of a car on with an arrow going from the front to the back of the car & a car with the arrow circulating within the car? Don't know if I've explained that very well but in some cars there are different settings, one will circulate the warm air within the car (leading to steamed up windows in winter) and the other will let the air flow through the car....meaning it doesn't steam up!! I used to get really bad steamy windows (on my KA and now on my toyota) and then I found one thing that made it stop - the switch that decides whether the air coming into the car is either recycled through the car, or the air comes in from outside - well I had it on the recycled one - I think Id been behind a stinky van or something. Well I switched it to the other one - where the air shows by an arrow its coming in from the outside - and it stopped!
In the cold weather I still sometimes get it a bit - especially if it rains, but I just put the heater on the cold for about 1 minute and its gone. Whereas before it took a lot longer.0 -
Could a mod move this to motoring please.. no idea how it ended up in here marraiges etc.0

We've never found a recirculation option for it in the Ka but i agree that would be the answer that would spring to my mind..0

Sadly it sounds like symptoms of a leaky heater matrix0 -
my Ka never had much of a problem with steamy windows but when it did i always turned on the heater to the hottest setting and that cleared it and kept it clear.0

I have been putting the cheap £1 dehumidifer things in my car and it has stopped the steamy windows. I thought it was bad in my car because the dogs were always wet in the car and towels etc are often left in it. This has pretty much stopped it.If you always do what you have always done, you will always get what you always got!0

Lol, I've just had that problem in my little car these past few days. My windows are broken, so can't open them, and it was getting ridiculous me driving along with a cloth in my hand, constantly wiping.
And yes, the circulation was set for inside the car instead of from outside. How I laughed as the mist disappeared within a few minutes.
Hope you find a solution too.:wall:0
