    Wow, well done MsDaisy!! :T:T

Really must have a go at our PPI stuff...two methinks: a previous mortgage provider and a present CC...need to get DH in on it too, but he doesn't seem to think we have much chance. I say, why not at least try!!!

Not done anything about working out final savings for January. So I'll stick what I've already said. If I find anymore, I'll add them in Feb as I thing this will be a poor month, in so many ways! :o

Well done everyone so far...a quarter the way through, lets keep on saving the £s and losing the lbs!!

  • Received a tax rebate yesterday, only £24.80 but every little helps. I have adjusted my signature accordingly. Weigh in tomorrow so fingers crossed I have lost a little.

Way back at the beginning of December I put in a complaint about PPI I was sold. I just got a letter today saying they have upheld my complaint and will pay me £1233.28!

I would never even have thought about claiming this back without the help and support of people on this site. This is such an amazing community, I really appreciate how willing people are to help others along :)

Keep up the good work everyone :T

YAY! Doing so well on the weight front as well!!

For me, I've been having such a horrid time in work lately that I've momentarily given up on exercise. Must get back on it.

Just out of curiosity because I have a feeling I can't find a definitive answer for my own situation, but I wondered what other people record as a saving if due to price reductions they buy more than they would otherwise have bought?

I've just ordered some much-needed clothes at sale prices: I didn't really have a budget just a ball-park figure of around £50 which is roughly what I spent, but I gave myself that figure knowing I was looking in the sales. I so rarely buy at full price that's it's quite difficult to say what I would have spent at full price - maybe £25?

The same goes for a couple of (early!) Christmas presents I got at the same time - spent £10 because that was a fair-enough price but wouldn't buy at full price.

I know different people may look at this differently but what savings have I made?

well if that's all you were gonna pay for the items anyway then um none
but at least you got a good price for things that cost more. But if you'd budgeted £10 for something and you managed to get it for £5 then i'd count that as a saving.

Just out of interest is everyone putting their saving straight away into a savings account?

That is amazing! Really pleased for you - and I can see from your signature that the weight loss is going very well too. :T:T:T

Thanks for the feedback. :) I think I won't count the discounts against Christmas presents because I definitely wouldn't have bought them full price. The clothes... I will check through the sums in case there's any leeway. ;) I am looking at it as I saved money then put the saved money to buying extra, which I can see isn't a saving, LOL!

My savings aren't going directly into a savings account but I'm making mortgage over payments, which means I'm saving twice: the first is the actual saving made on the day and the second is the long-term one where I avoid some interest payments. I'm limited as to how much I can put into this till March though, as there's an overpayment penalty lasting till then. (I can still repay about £180 without hitting the penalty zone).

As we have some big one-off expenses this month, any other money stays in current to avoid dipping too far into savings - IYSWIM.

  • Still 12st 6lb and well ticked off about it:o

On the savings front a bit brighter another £360 into the pot for this month.

I am really happy with that. I shall also be squirrelling away some "expenses" money on Monday this won't be counted here, because it is for things like car tax, opticians/dentist etc.

I have managed lots of nsd's in January. I think I may actually count them this month and see how many I can actually do.

We have never bought into the ppi thing, but I have written a letter for a friend to get the ball rolling for her. Well done to those who have got their money back:)

Thanks folks, your support is what keeps me going :) When I started this challenge I didn't believe I'd be able to save even £100 a month, just shows you never know!

Definitely have a go at reclaiming PPI. I used the forms on this site. They were easy to fill in. I did post my 'statement' and asked for comments. I got some very useful replies so I amended it accordingly and sent the paperwork off. It took the loan company 8 weeks to respond but hey, they didn't challenge anything.

On the weight front, I've not lost anything for two weeks but I haven't really been very good so it's not surprising ;) Must get back to it :D

    Take care everyone x

  • After a mad couple of weeks trying to finish everything off before leaving my job, eating rubbish on the go and consuming large quantities of cider at my leaving do, I had put on a couple of lbs. A bit of exercise in the last week has seen me lose this, so I'm back where I started with a net loss of 0lbs.

The money side is doing slightly better though. I now have £279.92 saved, with my mystery shopping added. Roll on February!
