A little addition to my money saving, received a small amount from Amazon sales, total now is £387.56

Hoping for a weight loss tomorrow but not holding out too much hope.

Welcome back Mr B and thanks for your offer of a monthly update on all the figures. The spreadsheet was just too much work and I think you have enough to do without giving yourself extra work and stress. I just love your updates on your progress and am very happy if that is all you can manage right now.

Well done to all the other posters on the fantastic progress.

Hello, I'm a bit late to the party. I was pointed in this direction from another thread I used to contribute on regularly, but now mainly read the updates.

This idea is inspired, so I'm going to jump right in and say 'I wanna do it too!' The timing can't be better either. The new weightloss/healthy eating regime for 2012 lasted about 3 days, and last week was totally scuppered by too many indulgences. Our finances have taken a total battering in the past year, with job losses, fledgling business, new job only being P/T adjusting to v.low income blah, blah, blah.

I suspect the weightloss is going to be the easier part on a practical level, but incentive wise, I'm more keen on the financial part.

Spurred on, these are my initial objectives:
    - try to follow slimming world diet principles, it worked when I attended last year, is healthy & stops me being hungry & tempted to snack
    - increase exercise... in fact just doing any would be better than I am now
    - decrease the food shopping bill as much as possible, and use up the bomb shelter ration hoarding I seem to have acquired before buying more
    - economise wherever possible, stop spending £ we don't have (that means no more ordering stuff from Next, even for kids)
    - jiggle current debts around to make savings, and use the £2,000 target to take chunks out of that debt
    - try to get more work from my new business venture, all earnings from that go into the £2k pot

My start date will be today, which puts me at an end date of mid-May. So, in the words of my 13 y/o son, 'Let's do this!'

I've tried to make a start already, and have applied for a couple of balance transfers. One is to shift £900 to a 5.9%apr lifetime of balance offer, which will be a sight better than the 26%apr I was paying on it (this is my Next a/c balance). Now, this is where it gets tricky, because I'm no mathematician, in fact I'm very far away from being one. I *think* this means I'll pay 0.5% p/month on the £900... is that right? Not entirely sure if I've got this completely @rse about face. Anyway, it'll work out less than the £91 p/m I was paying, won't it? Just put it into a loan repayment calculator, and works out the annual interest at just shy of £30. I'm paying almost £16 p/m in interest at the moment with Next.

OK, assuming they asked for 5% of debt as a monthly repayment, so that's about £45, saving me £46 p/m
The other balance transfer moving to 0% will save me (in the short-term till July) £61 p/m * does happy dance *
I make that a total saving over the 4 months of £428/£2000

Right, I'm off to make a money saving meal now, and feed the five thousand.

Almost! It was whoopsied pork chops slow cooked in a sweet & sour sauce with rice, 2 individual steak pies with mash, and a microwave fish pie. I did say I was using up what we had here first!

Good move on the next card :)

Thanks, it's long overdue, and I've no idea why it didn't occur to me sooner. I've been paying this darned thing off for ages, with little dent in the balance.
