What happened to cheap tyres?

Love to know where these scrap yards full of cheap tyres are. Our local ones sell all the tyres to a local Second Hand Tyre Specialist who then flogs them on for £100 for 4.
Tyre fitters charge £15 per wheel to fit, so £160 for 4 (195/65/15) is the cheapest I can get
That was the size I bought a set off ebay for another £20 for the rims.
I wanted the spare rims to put winter tyres on. 5 rims, they came with 3 very good tyres, and two scrap. I still have two on the back of the car, and the third has been the spare.0 -
Suppose inflation has something to do with it.

My mother got 2x13 inches for her old corsa a few months ago for £36, that's towards your price range but your car probably has bigger rims...
From my own experience and that of others on here independent tyre bays are often cheaper than blackcircles etc.0 -
My local garage just fit 2 tyres to my car for £18 in total
I used lovetyres.com the bridgestones Toyota were charging £140 each for were £85 each on here.
They have some at £39 each in your size. £84 inc delivery for 2, then about £20 fitting I guess at a garage
mytyre.co.uk your looking at £102 inc delivery and fitting for 2 (I'm just assuming you need 2 here) or £75 inc delivery if you can get them fitted yourself... Again, for 2.0 -
My last lot of tyres I bought costs £48 each with fitting for ford focus mk1. I dread to think how much they costs for my civic, good job I dont do much mileage.
I suppose price of fuel will push price up isnt the rubber synthetic and probably derived from fossil fuels? and also price of steel which goes in tyres will have gone up0 -
It's winter, that's what happened.''apply within''0

£30-35 has become £40-45, but I still don't see how the cheap tyres have "gone".
Looking at the online places the going rate for budget tyres in the OP's size is £35, and my garage is happy to fit whatever tyres I present to him for a fiver a corner if done at the same time as other work, so still possible if you're canny to just about dip under £40. Yes, I know that £35 was the fitted price for this size three years ago for budgets but that's inflation for you.0 -

i expect your next thread to be, I crashed my car, can i sue the council for not gritting my road
The cheapest tyres are not inherently unsafe, and no more relatively so in winter.
Certainly in the slush and snow I'd far, far rather have a brand-new set of Autogrip F101s (the cheapest tat available I believe) on my car than Pirelli P7s with 2mm of tread -- having tried the latter with 5mm last winter I'm still left with the mental scars!0 -
Size - tyres have got bigger. Even small cars nowadays come with alloys as standard. The days when I used to run my old Fiesta with it's 135's are gone.
Disposal costs - you can no longer send tyres to landfill or give them to a local farmer for his silage pit. Instead they have to be disposed of which costs money.0
