OP I don't see that anyone has mentioned the dishwasher. It's essential that both it and the washing machine are pulled out and their inlet and outlet pipes examined. Check the floor and wall behind both applicances too. I'm advising this from experience.

Just a thought-she hasn't got any eggs laying around has she?
I had a yucky smell hanging around the kitchen and after exhausting everything else pin pointed where it was coming from-a bowl holding eggs that were obviously past their BB date. I was quite suprised that the smell had come through the shell but it had done(and I didn't dare crack the sell to confirm lol)

Hi all, unfortunately she is still unable to find the source of the smell. I gave her all the suggestions but didnt feel upto going back today. I will ring her about the eggs though as I know she puts her eggs in a bowl on the side. Wouldn't I have smelt them when I was close to them yesterday if it were those? Will still get her to have a sniff_pale__pale_

She hasn't put a food steamer away and forgotten to empty the water/drip tray out of it has she? Not that I am talking from experience or anything :o.

I wish you lot'd stop going on about mice. I've had one in my kitchen for a while, carefully avoiding my traps, and I'm paranoid about the blasted thing keeling over behind a cupboard and ponging the place out for days.

use chocolate in your traps it is irresitable to mice
  • we once had a nasty smell in our kitchen and i was convinced it was a gone off potato, and pulled the cupoard out checking as the smell was worse on the side of the room where the potaoes are kept. When i checked, there was nothing there, but found out it was actually whee the waste water goes into the drain just outside the kitchen-it was blocked and the excess water had been seeping into the walls-luckily we managed to get it fixed and sorted before it did damage, although it did take a while for the smell to go completely.
  • My dishwasher pipe sprung a leak and emptied the dirty water under my floorboards - I kept saying that there was a nasty smell and cleaning everything including the dishwasher with bleach. When finally, the floorboards were lifted and the leak found, I was banned from seeing just what a disgusting mess was under the floor. DH was in there for a long time with the vax and discinfectant.

Ladies and Gents, she has discovered the source of the smell........................................the drip tray at the back of her fridge, well rather her b/f did. Rancid , disgusting clogged up thing, was her words when she phoned me. Now I feel really ashamed as we looked all over the fridge the other day but he did say that there was a flap that he had to remove to get to it and it was only by accident that he found it. So she has said many many thanks for all your help , it was much appreciated. It did make me pull out my fridge and have a look to make sure mine was ok, which I am pleased to say was totally empty and clean. Bet she checks it more often;);)
