I have an opinion on that (now theres a surprise lol)...I think there shouldnt be a switch in the car for sidelights! They serve no purpose at all IMO.

If road conditions require lights, then lights should be on, none of this sidelights or headlights nonsense.

The only GOOD reason for sidelights is if they automatically come on as well as your headlights when the switch is activated to act as a temporary light showing the corner of the vehicle should the main headlamp bulb fail.

A good habit imo is to use headlights if any lights are needed. :)
On our car the switch goes: Off, side lights (which lights up dash) full lights (lights up dash). When I park I always turn my lights down to side lights so I am visible but not blinding anyone (way I was told during lessons), its the fact my dash is still lit up that throws me that's why I forget, and normally I am in a well lit area so as I am driving off I can't tell that things aren't as illuminated as they should be, I have started to check now just to make sure but it is one of those things I have to remind myself of. I'm not an idiot driver at least I try not to be so don't think too badly of me from this :o

Everything will be ok in the end, and if it isn't ok then it isn't the end :)
  • It's not just young drivers that are bad drivers.

I was driving down a country road one day in a tractor with trailer. The car behind me was desperate to get passed and the driver was tooting her horn, flashing her lights, kept pulling out to make it clear they were there and wanted passed. There was no room for them to pass, even if I'd slowed down or stopped. Eventually we got to a point where the car could pass and they did. The silly old woman who must have been about 70 slowed down to 20mph (top speed of a tractor 28/29) when she got in front of me, and then she had a cheek to slow down even further through the village, once through the village she sped up back to 20 again. She was holding me up after all her tooting and flashing!:mad:

The moral of this story is don't annoy your mum as she'll always manage to find a way to win!!! :rotfl:

Oh my he sounds ever so much like my 5 yr old horror :rotfl: He was climbing out of baby walkers at 5months i had to rein him in he started school in august and is constantly in trouble he is on the verge iof being expelled  Oh well a new year and an appointment at camhs maybe we will get to the bottom of his defiant behaviour. However his very distracting behaviour does come in handy when trying for a DTD lol

Total opposite to me, iff dd had been my first there wouldnt have been a second!!! Ds was a monkey but not too bad and he sailed through the puberty stage in no time, dd has been a nightmare from she was born, loads of rare health problems though none too serious just hard to detect and shes completely accident prone, and as a teen shes a mouthy cow (no idea where she gets that from;)!! but at heart she is a really good kid. Speaking of her she just had another meltdown about tomorrow, just gave her 2 Kalms to see if it'll help her sleep and told her to cry it out, but she doesnt seem to want to cry in front of me!! Looks like Im spending whats left of the night in her bed! Poor ds, seems like Im neglecting his needs but he just gives me a cuddle and tells me hes fine.....kids eh!!

What you did is intelligent. Not what I do, but I won't knock you for thinking about your actions. What really irks me is drivers who simply don't think.

Your comments about the dash lights are a good one as some cars now have dashlights that glow up as soon as the ignition is on. Not a great idea as you suggest the lack of dash lights are an early warning to us if we do forget to light up.

That's the first I've heard of anyone being taught to do that.
    Parking at night

    248

You MUST NOT park on a road at night facing against the direction of the traffic flow unless in a recognised parking space.

[Laws CUR reg 101 & RVLR reg 24]
    249

All vehicles MUST display parking lights when parked on a road or a lay-by on a road with a speed limit greater than 30 mph (48 km/h).

ETA: Please do not think I am being a smart @rse by posting that, it's just what I was taught, though I did have A LOT of instructors and I only passed in July.

Everything will be ok in the end, and if it isn't ok then it isn't the end :)

Depends on where you park. If you cross to the 'wrong' side of the road its actually a very good thing as headlights are set to pick up the left side of the road and hence if you park facing the oncoming traffic your lights may well dazzle oncoming cars.
  • B0ll0x....2mm left in the glass. Question now is do I waddle downstairs to the fridge to set another hen free?
