Off Topic - Cheap Kindle cooking books:

    The Takeaway Secret (99p) - http://www.amazon.co.uk/The-Takeaway-Secret-ebook/dp/B004LWZLU2/ref=sr_1_1?s=digital-text&ie=UTF8&qid=1325633990&sr=1-1

    Slow Cooking Properly Explained (99p) - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Slow-Cooking-Properly-Explained-ebook/dp/B004OR18R4/ref=sr_1_1?s=digital-text&ie=UTF8&qid=1325634065&sr=1-1

    The Chinese Cookbook (77p) - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Chinese-Cookbook-Delicious-Recipes-ebook/dp/B0031TZPI4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1325634115&sr=8-1

Got these and some other free novels earlier today. No idea if they're any good but they have decent reviews and the Kindle aspect makes it easier for me for cooking as I have the app on my TouchPad.

Sounds delish...just reading back to try find instructions for the butter making?? i use creme fraiche a good bit but didn't know you could do that - would you be able to pass on instructions please - i'd love to have a go. Thanks in advance.:)

I think it was originally posted by MissLaid...before NewYear's if I remember correctly. Anyway, here's my synopsis:
    1. Whisk creme fraiche until it thickens, whisk some more (and more in my case) until it gets a chunky texture like cottage cheese. At this point you will see a liquid seperating from the globules of butter - the buttermilk.
    2. Pour buttermilk off, squeeze remaining buttermilk out of butter (I just put the lot in a sieve and let it run off).
    3. Rinse butter under very cold tap, getting as much buttermilk out as you can. This will prolong the life of the butter.
    4. Salt butter if so desired.
5 (optional). Let dish slip through buttery fingers into sink, breaking everything already in there.
    6. Trip over child's toy on floor and spill buttermilk over and under microwave.:p

With regards to making more creme fraiche, I've not tried this myself yet, but apparently you just mix half the amount of cultured buttermilk to cream and leave it to stand at room temperature for +-24hrs. To make more buttermilk, add 1part to 3parts milk in a glass jar with lid screwed on, leave to stand.

Finally managed to catch up after squillions of pages. We had no power from 8:00am till about 5:00pm, so have spent many hours entertaining one very bored son and explaining that there was once a world without electricity and computers!!

CONGRATULATIONS SUNSHINESTAR ON YOUR BEAUTIFUL DAUGHTER'S BIRTH.

LOL I was about to go upstairs and find the MLP and take a pic of it. You quoting my post means I only need to walk to the kitchen for liquid refreshment now
Glad I saved you a walk upstairs then - I knew there was a pic back there somewhere ;)

Sorry Elsi, Cookie 'takes the biscuit' LOL

Squeak is rather handsome, I am a bit scared of snakes tbqh. Does Cookie not try to play with the snake? We were on holiday one time and a cat was having a set to with a black snake, scared me to death. It was quite horrible really because security man came up to club the snake, it was only quite small but very dangerous. We cleared off and tried to shoo off the cat (which was having none of it). I wouldnt go into the hotel again through that entrance in case the snake had a mate.

    Spotted this whilst proof reading....
Cookie is fine with the snake, the tank is up quite high and when he comes to the front they just stare each other out. :rotfl:
I tend to take him out when she is asleep, (most of the time) :rotfl:or keep them seperate as I wouldn't like to see either hurt, or even stressed.... I defo think Cookie went through enough before we took her in. :(

No working scanners (there is one in the crisps aisle but it's kaput!)
I've never found much there TBH. I went to the R0bor0ugh Extra when the electricals glitch was on a few months back and did'nt find anything. I've not tried the superstore in Tr&nsit W&y (not sure where that is!) so can't say what that's like.
Either the T's down here are nothing like as good as the bigger ones up country....( they are a lot smaller) or I'm rubbish at finding stuff!!

hi...i think ur not alone at that predicament...Mr Ts in my area(tro£bridge and shep£on ma££et ) are always updated with the SELs and their prices...up until now i cant find any 1p item on clipstrips,,everything i scanned has the right price or

probably im also rubbish at finding stuff:o:o:o

I remember when I was knee high to a grasshopper, my mum had to collect me from school during one of the Scargill strikes. Poor mum was explaining to me that the school had to close because there was no electricity. I said "it's ok mum, I'll just watch TV when we get home". Oh the innocence :o

Just as another off-topic post, I've just applied my first ever TCB Amazon gift certificates and I'm very pleased to say that in 2011, I managed to accumulate £125+ of Amazon vouchers through TCB and surveys. That's flippin amazing
