Most of my cats have been strays and rescues from RSPCA or Cat protection league.
The Cats protection league do a great scheme called Golden Oldies.
If you adopt a cat over 12 years old, they will pay for all future medical costs relating to any existing or future medical condition they may develop.
It is to help the older cats get rehomed and I think it's a great idea and means that some of the older generation and those on low incomes who would love to own a cat, but can't afford too, are able to give them a loving home.

    Golden Oldie Scheme

'We are delighted to announce our new Golden Oldies Scheme. We have often found that people are happy to home an older, more settled cat who needs a new home, but are put off by the prospect of expensive vet bills. It is not uncommon to find that insurance companies will not take on a new risk when the cat is of a certain age. We will now cover non-routine veterinary expenses for all cats known to be over the age of twelve when adopted from our branch. We cannot cover routine flea and worming treatments, or booster vaccinations. We hope this scheme will encourage people to take on older, stable, loving cats without the worry of big vet bills. For the older cats, we hope to find them happy homes without the need for months of foster care'

My parents adopted a cat from them a few years ago under this scheme and whilst the cats protection league pay for his medical expenses, as my parents can mostly afford these bills, they donate money back to the cats protection league, to say thanks :)

It is also worth noting that if any of you decide to adopt/rehome a cat, that Black and white cats are the least sort after and generally get left till last as people prefer some of the prettier cats like tabby, white, tortoiseshell, ginger etc, which I think is really sad :( all of my cats with the exception of 2 ginger strays and, one ginger one from the cats protection league, have been black and white (7 of them) and they have all been so affectionate kind and loving cats :)

I'm not in a position to adopt again at the moment, it wouldn't be fair to my two, but nature and the unfortunate short lives of animals means that at some point I will be pet-less (though hopefully it will be a good few years yet) and can look to adopt again.

I've never had a black and white cat but tbh I go more for personality, I've never once chosen a cat on aesthetics, as I was saying to someone the other day, you don't choose a cat in a rescue, they choose you. Each time I visit a rescue to adopt there has been a cat or cats that I am just immediately drawn to and feel a connection with. And normally it's the ones that have been left behind, I'm a sucker for a sob story :o

Anyhoo night night one and all.

There are so many electricals with * as well such as SS11 portable DVD players but nothing scanning cheap as yet.

There are some 7" dvd players in one of my locals that are in a blue box and Tesco brand not technica, has anyone scanned these I did get them price checked when the electrical thing was going on and they were £44, but that would have been september, wondering if they might be reduced now. Havent seen them in my local extra tho and they normally have a wider range of goods.[/QUOTE]

Checked these in Spr1ngh1ll, Bang0r but still scanned at £40 odds :(

I agree with you but everyone turns up on my birthday and says things like "I haven't got paid yet", "I spent too much on Christmas but will buy you something later" etc. I am waiting for birthday presents from years ago! Anyway, I am old enough to just put up with it! But it's not fair if you are a child.

This happened to my DS with the FIL.
He had only just met my DS when he was 7 yrs old  because he had no intrest in our son or his own son (my DH)
I'd been pestered for months to get my DH to ring FIL, eventhough he'd our number and knew where we lived he couldn't be bothered so DH decided he wouldn't be bothered either. Anyway it was September/October when DS finally met FIL, DS wasn't told who he was because we didn't want him being upset if FIL didn't see him again.
He was bought a Xmas prezzie and informed them that his birthday was 3 weeks away and would they be at his party. He said he would and his wife said she'd make sure they were there. But on the day of the party they didn't turn up, we rang but were told that something important came up (later found out it was the BAR)
DS was so upset we didn't see them for a while but when we did DS asked them why they promised to be there and bring a gift when they weren't gonna keep it, he made them feel so small it would have been funny but for the fact that it upset DS so much.

He now knows who they are but since DH died in April they haven't bothered with him eventhough he is FIL's only grandchild, it makes me so mad because he runs around after his wife's grandchildren but can't be bothered with his only grandson  Even left DH funeral too go to someone elses:eek: just shows where his priorities lie but then again he did let his wife abuse DH from he was 7 right up till he was 14 and had run away so many times and didn't do anything about it

DS has now decided he wants nothing to do with them, hides when he sees them eventhough we're in the car when we do.
He saw them for the first a week before Xmas when his aunt (DH's half sister) took him to hers for a couple of hours but DS ran out of the house because he was so upset

But hey don't want to go on about the !!!! in my life

Aww your poor DS and Dh!!

Some people just dont deserve to have children!! I too have a family member that is just like that, (not close tho) and when ever i see them i always make sure i tell them what i think of them and what they are doing to their son and grandchildren! Its just not fair!

Anyway i'm off to bed, all ready for Ds's birthday tomorrow
    night night all
