Rising thanks yes that will help a lot, have previously tried asda's smart price but we just didn't like them, we have a home bargains near here so will try there next ... We do also have 11 tins in date ... Just 8 out of date ... Yikes,

We tend to use them a lot in Indian food more than anything tbh... But no
doubt we will add some pasta dishes to the meal planning :)

edited to add: just been reliably informed ( cause i aint the smartest :) ) we have a B&M's here not a home bargains, but will check there anyway they must be similar types of shops :)

well today is turning out to be a personal finance education day, first there was the whole out of date food scenario, and now it seems to be a just because you have a wee bit of money in the extra's pot doesnt mean to say you should spend it type lesson.

we went to costco as you know the other day and we spent a wee bit of money, nothing too drastic but enough so that the pot that the money came out of was emptied, i kinda knew at the time i should'nt have done what i did but i thought oh were half way through the month, i dont see us needing that money anytime soon.

and then the microwave died, we had mince and tatties for dinner last night and there was enough left over for dinner tonight, so we had done all that we were going to and it was time for food, shoved the plate in the microwave and it made an unusual sound, you know the kinda sound the microwave makes when something metal is in it? that kinda sound, only dfference is there was no metal in it at all, we took the food out and it was stone cold nadda, zilch microwaves had penetrated the food.

we were going to just heat the food up in the oven but thought oh no this will take too long, and we will need a microwave anyway, so we nipped out to asda and bought one, there was a few different priced ones but we bought the cheapest £32, it doesnt look anything special but it works and thats what we need.

we paid for it out of the food budget, so we have £28 to do us till the 15th, but we do also have £42 in nectar points which we can use in sainsburys should we need to.

so lesson number two learned today, when you put money by for things like hairdressers and broken microwaves, dont bloody well spend it on food, the food budget is for food not the extra's budget.

it all worked out in the end though and no harm no foul :)

i do beanie i have a fair few,

i have one with tins and things in, one with dried things like lentils, flour, baking stuff etc in, one with things like cereals and nuts etc and one with asian style food, and one with spices, tea/coffee packet foods etc ...oh and now we also have the out of date cupboard which will be going down alot more now that we aware of it

i also have supplies of rice and curry paste etc that i keep in their bags at the back of the kitchen units

i dont see it as having a lot though, but maybe that is a kick back from childhood where we had 13 people living in the one house, so food for 13 people took up alot more space.

we use everything we buy ( apart from the seriously out of date stuff) and tend to cook from scratch, mr el likes to try different types of cooking as well, although i would say his favourite is asian, he loves to cook chinese, indian, japanese and thai, so they tend to take up quite a bit of space, we will buy a 25kg bag of rice for example, this bag of rice will last us maybe 6 months or so, but we eat alot of rice so it makes sense to buy in bulk to save money.

So the day I should be lying in my bed in up and raring to go, have done my Tilly ups for the day another 46p to the interest bearing debt, will turn the electric blanket on and see if I can talk myself into going back to sleep, if not I'm tempted to walk the 4 miles to my local town and collect my quidco check ins... Then 4 miles back ... That should make me tired enough to sleep lol

see how much i know about shops :rotfl::rotfl:

:rotfl::rotfl: Now that's a place I've never been :o Not one near me but I think there is one in the town where the £ shop is so will investigate next time I'm there .....

Beanielou there's a HB in Glenrothes (and Kirkcaldy but that's further away) - not sure if you're ever there but might be handy to have a look / stock up if so.:)

Ohhhhh you sound more like me by the day :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

I have far too much stuff :o I think mine goes back to days of being snowed in for weeks on end when I was little and living on really boring stuff when stocks were running out!

I wasn't bad when I lived in the city (as knew shops were nearby) but have got worse & worse since moving back to the sticks:o

Trying to use some of it up atm and reduce grocery spends for a couple of months .... I probably have enough rice to last the whole year (as well as a few other things).

There's people on some of the boards who literally shop for what they use that week and have NO stocks (seriously - not even a tin of toms!) .... that just sends shivers down my spine:eek:
