Well, take a trip up the M3 to Festival Place, Basingstoke.

I live in London, why on earth would I want to visit Basingstoke? I don't need to go to a soulless commuter dump to ascertain that shopping centres are busy a few days before Christmas.

..... went into Town last night between 6 and 8pm ...... thought it would be empty.

Not on your nelly!! Car Parks FULL, shops jammed to the rafters with people grabbing anything that may be left, the walkways were just a people soup .... I gave up in the end - it's madness.

And the amount of money being spent was mindboggling ..... this is the South, of course. And I do realise the Northern towns are full of boarded up shops rather than full of shoppers.

But, hereabouts, it's like the good times had never briefly disappeared ...... it's full steam ahead!!

Don't worry, Northerners, the affluence will filter down to you soon enough.

The shopping bill is on credit which will be paid over the next 12 months. Then it will be Christmas again and the cycle continues...hasn't it been this way for ages?

No credit for the un-creditworthy these days ..... maybe that's why the North is suffering badly?

Nah, Cash Christmas here. Why get yourself in debt for a year for one day?

    Exactly!!

I don't do Xmas on Credit at all ... never have.

I have put aside £5,000 from this months paypacket to fund it fully.
