You can get the free HD channels for free.
  • We have all the Free ones but I heard a rumour that the rest will be free soon
  • I haven't heard anything but I think it's about time Sky HD went free. There are alternatives out there now offering free HD so Sky need to catch up.

Personally I think paying over £120 a year for a little more clarity on your TV is a total and utter waste of money. I find standard definition TV perfectly good.
  • There wont be any leaked info regarding this until very close to the time its far too sensitive. (and there vague rumors for years)

We were told when I was doing my HD course with Sky wayyy back in 06 ish that it would eventually be free when the customer base was big enough to justify it's cost.(We were told by the senior engineer who came over to train us in the HD)
Problem now in my opinion is that because a lot of people are ditching the HD side,Sky see this as a reason not to drop the fee so are sticking with it.
  • As they've now decided you'll get the Sky F1 channel if you've got the HD pack, I can't see them dropping the charge any time soon.

Yup,the clarity I get on the SD channels on my Samsung Plasma TV is nearly as good as HD on some channels..
  • It depends which HD channels. Not all are done in native HD so they can be compared to normal TV, but try watching football in HD and then flicking over to the SD channel. You'll instantly see the difference.

We had an offer on our account (been with them nearing 20 years). Free HD Box with self install (easy!) and £2.50 for the HD package for the next 12 months. Don't see any difference so won't be keeping the HD pack after 12 months bt it was worth it for the box upgrade and the awesome anytime plus

  • As far as we were told in training in september HD will only be free when 3d has enough of a take off to start charging for that. But considering 3d isn't taking off as much as most companies would like it could take a long time for hd to become free
