So Milarky,
When you do you think you will start earning interest:
1) 1st Feb (within one calendar month)
2) 9th Feb (14 working days from 20th Jan)
3) 29th Feb?
ThanksHaving enquired about it, I have now been informed that I will begin to earn interest from 14 'working days' following the date that HSBC got list of payments acknowledgement back from my existing bank (20th January) - which I reutrned to a HSBC branch on 6th January. The condition states:
Now you see the sophistry (deceitfulness) of this bank: "within one calendar month" literally means "at the end of one calendar month". Do you see that? Some people are going to read that and say "no, that could be any time within a month. It could be a day or it could be 30 days." But the point is that HSBC has the discretion when to pay and will surely exercise that to its advantage - going to the end of the month in all cases.0 -
...I just made a phone call to HSBC Pohone bankiong team today, who transfer me to their a/c department.. My clock for 6% was already start ticking about a week ago. It is actually the date when I got the list of SO/DD hat it is going to be swtiched from HSBC ...Having enquired about it, I have now been informed that I will begin to earn interest from 14 'working days' following the date that HSBC got list of payments acknowledgement back from my existing bank (20th January) - which I reutrned to a HSBC branch on 6th January. Well just to throw some more confusion onto it, both my OH and I opened the accounts, sent forms back etc on exactly the same dates. We both had letters confirming they've received the "switching" details from our other banks, which were both dated 8 January. BUT, OH's "transfer" date for the standing orders is given as 27 January, whereas mine is given as 3 February. How do they get to two different dates, when all other information is exactly the same
. I've sent a letter of complaint in to them about how ridiculous it is from my 3 secure messages and 1 'phone call that no ones been able to confirm to me an exact date when I'll be earning interest. 0 -
Hi 10_66;
I found the best way to deal with HSBC is by calling them.
Do not rely on their secure message for unrgent request. It takes longer as they will send it to another department.
I found their Phone bankng team is quite reliable ....Well just to throw some more confusion onto it, both my OH and I opened the accounts, sent forms back etc on exactly the same dates. Never hurts to complain. I've just checked my account and found £25 has been added to it today, this will have been from the complaint I generated because my question hasn't been answered. The absolutely stupid thing is, they've added the £25 to my account but STILL not answered my question!0

So it seems like its easier to give out £25 than to answer your question.
Maybe we could all complain and increase the incentive by £25
(either that or one of us would actually get an answer

Hi all,
Hoping someone can help, as HSBC can’t seem to!
So I’ve been a customer of HSBC for 15+ years and fancied this 6% deal. So downloaded the switching form and filled it out and posted it off, so far so good. A few days ago I received a letter and list of my SO and DD from HSBC with details of the DD/SOs on my Santander bank account which I’m switching from, again all fine. Apart from I only want to transfer 2 or 3 DD/SOs to HSBC and not all of then, the letter says if you want to transfer just a few call them and tell then which ones. Called then 4 different times now , and no one seems to understand what’s going on, and cant find out how to transfer a few of the DD/SOs rather than all of them. After the last call they are now sending me a new form which I can supposedly use to indicate which ones I want to transfer, but I don’t think this is right as the person of the phone did not really understand what I was getting at.
So, can anyone confirm how you went about only transferring a few DD/SO rather them all?
Also, did you all get a copy of the same letter? Just a simple 3 page letter with a list of DD/SOs, or did you get something different, i.e. something to send back indicating which ones to transfer?
Thanks all! :T0 -

same boat as you - i waited on hold for 5 mins, then i hung up and went to a branch, where they manually crossed off the ones i didn't want to switch, and pledged to send it off to the right department. hopefully all goes through ok.0 -
Well, following on from my posts #85 and #94, here's another version of HSBC's story. OH sent a couple of secure messages (selecting exactly the same options for directing the secure message as I had) and he's actually had a reply yesterday. It's another completely different story from what I was told (I don't believe what I was told anyway as it contradicted the T&C's), but seems to be different from what Milarky was told as well (post #91) . When the interest if finally paid on my opening balance of £500 (I'm not putting anything else in until I'm sure I'm earning interest), it'll be very interesting to work out from when it has been paid.
