Good broadband deals, no landline required?

I live alone and have no use for a landline as I only use my mobile anyway.

I currently have mobile broadband from 3 but I'm not happy with the fact I can't stream things, not even youtube.

What other options would people recommend? Basically anything that doesn't require a landline? Doesn't have to be 'mobile' as I have a stationary PC.

Your choices are Wimax (if you're in a covered area - not many are and it is expensive), or Virgin cable (if you're in a covered area). Other than those (or mobile) then EVERY other broadband option will require a landline.

This says no phone needed - http://www.toowaydirect.com/

That was just the first one I found looking for satellite broadband. There will be others. Some do need a phone line for upstream though. Those that don't usually have high initial setup costs.

I was going to ask the same question! I have a home phone I never use, I have a mobile on a cheapish contract but although I can watch done youtube stuff I can't get I player or listen again radio so have to use the pc for that. I use the WiFi at home to access the internet on my mobile so I don't go over my plan minutes.
I am fed up with being locked into a 2 year deal.
I don't want a home phone but have to pay line rental Just to get internet access at home. There's no cable where I live I don't have sky or anything.

If you want ADSL broadband then you have to pay line rental to somebody-the line and exchange is not maintained for free.

But I didn't say I wanted ADSL. I was asking for alternatives to this.

The only alternatives as already advised are VM cable, wireless broadband with a dongle, or satellite broadband.

Did it really take 10 months to come up with that retort? :)

  • Hi all,

I have a similar problem, I live on my own and recently finished with the BT landline so have used only a mobile phone since. I have got the Vodafone wifi, which is abslutely useless, nearly every time I Google something I get that annoying message 'The webpage cannot be displayed' and is driving me crazy :mad:. It must be the Vodafone Internet causing this which I would love to quit yesterday. I don't want to go back to paying for a landline to be able to use a broadband. Is there a trick how to improve Vodafone or another much more reliable internet provider?
    Many thanks,
    tj.

Mobile broadband is rarely an adequate substitute for ADSL broadband, it might have been an idea to test the Voda reception before having your landline disconnected?
