Car boot sales (Merged discussion)

Thanks for the reply. Im selling highchairs, bouncers, swings, a cot. Some clothes, old pushchairs, some baby things that are still brand new in their boxes for one reason or another. I also have some bits and pieces of household stuff I dont need anymore.
Sorry I dont know of any in Fermanagh, I only really know of Granville and the car boot up at Junction one.0 -
There is a weekly car boot sale in Newry, Sunday mornings starting at 7.00am. I think it has the edge over other car boots as it's in the market area and is therefore covered. Also sellers are allowed to use the stalls which are already there to put their stuff out on. It costs £10 per car as far as I know.
I sound like I'm pushing this, but to be honest I haven't actually been to it myself either as a seller or as a buyer and am just reporting bits I've heard on the grapevine or read in the local paper. If I can get my rear in gear on Sunday coming I'll go down to have look at what's happening and report back.
There is also Dundrum on a Sunday morning. I've been to that as a buyer. It's very busy indeed, so you'd need to get there early to get a good spot to set up on. It might be a bit too far away for you though.
I agree about leaving the price off things as it'll hopefully encourage a bit of bartering or deal making if people speak to you about prices.0 -
Thanks so much, this is exactly the information I need.
Im going to try Dungannon on Saturday and anything that doesn't sell I can convince my hubby to make a day trip to Dundrum or Newry.
Im going through the stuff at the moment and I have stuck the price I am after for it on the back- just to give me a guideline, but im very flexible.
I have to say I am quite excited at the prospect of getting cold and muddy this weekend. I could Ebay it, but Ive started to go off ebay, and boxing it up to dispatch would be a pain.0 -
I done Granville a couple of years ago and wasnt very impressed. You need to be in queue from about 6 in morning and gates dont open uptil 8. I found the people then didnt want to spend alot they wanted everthing for next to nothing and to be honest rather than do that I took it home and gave it to a charuty shop for free! Also there was buyers there who would come to your car and take the stuff out themselves with out asking. Seemingly they buy from you and then sell at another car boot sale for more. My advice would be make sure you have someone to help. Good luck.0

We just done Dunsilly this weekend and made a few bob as well as cleared a few bits
We did price stuff - but were open to offers.
Take loads of carriers and change ( as well as fivers)
Be aware that as soon as you arrive, you will be swamped with people pulling apart what you have to see whats there. We even had guys half in the car trying to get into the boxes before we had unloaded. We were a couple so we could cope with it, but the lady in the next car found it to be very intimidating and quiet scary
The kids stuff ( high chair, cot etc) went fast and for good prices. Stuff that didnt sell were books, dvds etc
And no body will want to pay what you are asking - they want it for free. I had toiletries boxed, unopened that I had seen in Savers selling £7, I was asking £2 and they wanted to pay a quid.
Dunsilly advertises its open till 2pm but to be honest most were packing up around 11.30 having sold all they were going to
And if you are having a early start - remember the torch0 -
Thanks all. I have the things all boxed up. If I dont get rid of it at Dungannon I will keep it boxed and try elsewhere. I have already given a lot of their baby clothes to charity, but you know what it's like, times are tight and if I can sell the unused stuff (even for little or nothing) at least I'll have something in my pocket.
To be honest I dont give a hoot if people buy it to sell on elsewhere, I just want it cleared out.0 -
