Why can't a person be a named driver on 2 cars?
But either way, yes of course they can.
But in a family with two driving adults and two cars it is unlikely that both cars will be predominantly used by one person. Possible, obviously, but unlikely.0 -
You usually have to build up a separate NCD per vehicle.
Some insurance companies let additional named drivers accumulate NCD as well, but it is not across the board.0 -

Especially when only 1 car is suitable for the named driver's business.Science adjusts its views based on what's observed.

Are you insured as spouse on the co op insured car? If so you will have built up no claims on that policy alongside you wife's. You could transfer those 4 years and insure her RAC car in yout name with her as the main driver. I did this earlier this year. The girl on the phone at the co op insurance suggested it!!0

I'm main driver on three vehicles, and named driver on two more. I also have two full ncd in my name, used on two of the ones I'm main driver on.
Two polices (one main, one named driver, have cover for business use)0 -
From the RAC website - not hidden or hard to find - there is an "i" next to the input for no claims bonus when you do a quote. When you click on it, it shows this...
"Every year you hold a policy in your own name without making a claim, you build up a no claims discount, which may save you money.
If you do not know your no claims discount (NCD), you should make a best guess, as this can always be changed before you purchase your policy.
Proof of No Claims Discount (NCD) may be required. N.B. The NCD being used for this policy must be in the main drivers name. NCD can only be used on one policy at any one time. The expiry date or renewal date must not be more than 24 months before the commencement of cover for the vehicle with us. NCD must be no older than 24 months old. We accept a maximum of 5 years NCD from company car policies as long as you had sole use of the company car."
So, this is yet another example of someone not reading the information available to them and then crying foul when it comes back to haunt them.....All matter is merely energy condensed to a slow vibration, we are all one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively, there is no such thing as death, life is only a dream, and we are the imagination of ourselves.0 -
That must mean per car?
They can't seriously mean that if I went to them to insure 2 cars, as main driver of each, I would build up a NCD only on one of the cars?
If that were true then obviously I'd go to another insurer for one of the cars. That's stupid - most insurers encourage multiple policies, and give discounts for additional cars. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. As above, we are a three car household and can only have two lots of NCB applied to cars as there are only two of us. So we have one car (my OHs run about) that has no NCB on it at all as he can't use it twice- even though he has a driving history without incident for over 30 years.
If we went to a different insurer for the little car we still couldn't get any NCB as that will still be being used on the big car- and we can't use it twice.
Obviously we did negotiate a discount when we got quotes by saying if they would knock some money off we would take all 3 cars to them , if they didn't then we would insure each car seperately with whichever insurer came in cheapest- as some insurance companies 'liked' the little car and were happy to discount down rather a lot even without a NCB. So effectively the insurer price matched the lowest quotes we could get on all three cars.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Hi , back to the original post, my comment was because the original poster obviously didn't understand how NCD works.
At no point did I say that she could not be the main driver on both vehicles but it was stated that there was only one NCD available.
In some instances everything is 'above board' however there are occasions where the customer is attempting to 'front' for someone else.
In this instance it was obvious that the poster innocently did not know that you cannot add up NCD's to increase the discount or that the insurance company 'might' be suspicious if she was main driver on both cars.
If she was going to be main driver on both cars she should have two lots of NCD or attempt to find an insurer that would mirror the discount.0
