Think of no claims bonus as a donkey tail they give you, the longer the tail, the more bonus you have.
Unfortunately you can only pin the tale on one donkey.
You can change the Donkey as many times as you like, but one tail = one donkey at any one time, not one tail for two donkeys.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
Hi I may be missing something here but surely she isnt the main driver on both cars. Whichever car she drives the most insure in her name and insure the other in the name of the personwho drives that most.
As she has 4 years and you only have 0 years then one of the policies is going to cost a lot !!0 -
Think of it as having a bank account with £1000 in and tomorrow it will pay you £100 in interest.
You open a 2nd account, They dont give you £1000 to match the other account and they dont give you
£100 either..
New account starts from zero. You can transfer the money from the 1st to 2nd account.
That make sense or am i confusing matters?Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
If you decide you don't want the second policy then I suggest that the policyholder cancels it pretty quickly.
If you wait until the insurer cancels the policy then the policyholder will have to declare that they have had insurance cancelled EVERY TIME they apply for any type of insurance.
You can only use one NCD on one car at a time. You will have to pay the extra premium for the period covered, even if you cancel the second policy, because you have had the benefit of cover. We need the earth for food, water, and shelter.

I agree with thenudeone. Get the Co-op policy cancelled right away.0

I don't know what fronting is if i'm honest.
In fact, until today, i have never heard of the term being used.
A typical example may be a family with, say, an Audi TT insured in the dad's name, a people carrier insured in the mum's name and a Fiat Punto insured in the mum's name with the 18 year old as a named driver.
Chances are in that situation that the Punto is the 18 year old's car, but it is cheaper to insure in the mum's name. This is illegal. [It is fair to add the mum to the policy if she may drive the car on occaision, but to call her the main driver is wrong.]
In your case, I can't really see the point in you fronting, so just make sure that you aren't. If you use one of the vehicles for work I would imagine that the insurance for that one should be in your name. But it doesn't necessarily work like that. If your wife uses both cars significantly more than you do then it is correct that they are both insured in her name, with seperate NCB on the two.0 -
The RAC are cancelling the policy because you don't want to pay the price they have quoted on a nil bonus basis.
You have stated an alternative quote of c£500 - is that with no bonus as it seems cheap if the other quote is £1200. I would go back to the RAC, explain that you didn't understand that bonus could not be used on 2 vehicles and ask if they will give an intro on the 2nd policy - insure in your name as you will be main driver or in your wife's name but with you stated as main driver. See what they quote then.0 -

Best explanation I've seen for NCB - clear.
NCB and fronting are 2 of the hot topics in car insurance. Fronting has been tightened up and unfortunately it means that the ''computer'' will use that as a reason for declining when in reality that is not the case. Last year I went to insure a 10 year old Rover (1.2 or 1.4 ?) with wife as main driver and 2 sons (23 and driving for 5 years) I told it as it was and was told ''No - fronting'' What!!!!!
Both sons have now built up 4 years NCB with Direct Line as a named driver and have their own Direct Line policy.
Recently I was conducting what resembled a military operation when moving 1 policy onto DLine to sit with 2 others we have with DLine. I had to accept that I had no NCB with my new car for about 3 months until I could place 1 son as main driver (own NCB now) and t/f my NCB to my new car. Aaaaaaaaaagghhhhhhhh:eek:0 -
Hi everyone,
Thanks for the replies.
Both me and my wife are not new drivers.
We both have a combined driver experience of over 24 years.
Me having nearly 7 and she having 16.
She has the 4 years no claims and i only have two from around 4 years ago.
accumulates this.
I hope you are now aware that you no longer have 2 years NCD as most companies will only accept NCD proof up to 2 years old.0 -

Why can't a person be a named driver on 2 cars?
My OH and I have 3 cars between us- he has a large 8 seater and a little run about and I have a standard family car. The 8 seater stays mainly in the garage and is used for long trips only due to running costs as he deems it unsuitable for merely popping down to the shops or taking it to the cinema of an evening. So although he has been driving for over 30 years and has a full NCB he pays full whack on the little car as the NCB is on the big one as that is the one with the highest premium.
My full no claims bonus is on my own car, We are also named drivers on each others cars for fully comp insurance.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.
