Correct - the employer terminated the contract. Therefore it is a dismissal. But as an explanation on an application, or for discussion with an employer, as in the cases you mentioned, saying that the reason for leaving was a failed probationary period is better than saying "dismissed" - which has connotations of misconduct.0 -
I see from your other posts you are a Social Worker, in this case you have absolutley no choice about being open and honest about why your probationary period failed with a new employer. The previous employer may have told the GSCC anyway. If you lie and miss it off your C.V and a new employer finds out then you could be struck off the register for good. Sorry I didnt realize you were in this field. They are really strict and you would definatley be sacked if you lied about your employment history.
Social Workers with dismissals (depending on what happened) can often get work through employment agencies as a way back in.Employers are more likley to take a risk on someone they can just send straight back.
It will be very hard for you to get a local Authority job on the back of a failed probation. It will be easier trying agencies and the 3rd sector.
You can also get professional advice through BASW and there are consultants who provide advice to Social Workers with issues.Look in the community care magazine.0
