Hot shops!

I've been talking to a friend who mentioned she had to leave a shop without buying anything because she nearly passed out from the heat! I've noticed the same thing and it is a few shops that are constantly boiling hot.
Card Factory, New Look and Wilkos.
I find myself going in grabbing stuff I want, paying then leaving as quick as I can or if there is a queue I won't bother at all because I will end up feeling faint because it is so hot in their.
Is there a reason shops have the heating so hot? It can't be to encourage more shopping as I have heard other people complaining it is too hot and not bothering to buy from there.
Do they expect us to strip off before entering?

this time of year shops will have the heating on along with the over the door heaters which are at an acceptable level, but as the shop gets busy body heat increases this to a dangerous level. these days red tape dictates the workplaces needs to be a certain temp. or staff can refuse to work.
in my shop if the heat gets too bad it gets turned off, body heat alone will keep the premisies warm0 -
|Oh my OH would love to see this thread - she works in a large bookshop (a very common English surname) and she has 3-4 layers on to get through the day. Temperature has dropped as low as 9 degrees before heating gets turned on by the manager due to the costs!
Even customers complain how cold it is so if any of you want to cool down whilst shopping, I can recommend one place!0 -
I feel exactly the same when in Anne Summers shops - all hot and bothered...I am a cow so cannot speak Bullshine but I do recognise its smell when I come upon it.0

Don't they have thermostats?
I have one in my house, the temp goes below 16 the heating comes on if it is over 16 it is off.0 -

get your OH to read this and pass onto their employers
http://www.hse.gov.uk/temperature/law.htmTemperatures in the workplace are covered by the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992, which place a legal obligation on employers to provide a “reasonable” temperature in the workplace. The Approved Code of Practice suggests a minimum temperature in workrooms should normally be at least 16 degrees Celsius – or 13 degrees Celsius if much of the work indoors involves severe physical effort. These temperatures are not absolute legal requirements; the employer’s essential duty is to determine what reasonable comfort will be in the particular circumstances.0 -
I have to agree that shops are far too hot. Why on earth aren't the heating systems thermostatically controlled? They surely know that people aren't going to be dressed for sunbathing but the shop temperatures would make you think so.Lost my soulmate so life is empty.
I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have -

I went into Primark today with a friend and within 10 minutes we were both drenched in sweat. It was really cold outside with a biting wind so we had outdoor coats on, but it was soooo hot in the store that as soon as we got out of the lift on the second floor we had to give up and leave the store.
The queue was massive and we'd have passed out with the heat if we'd joined it.
How ridiculous is that?0 -

our local Primark has air conditioninbut as the store is always packed it has no effect0 -
it is apparently Card Factory policy not to have air con or heating on due to cost no matter how much the customers complainWhat Would Bill Buchanan Do?0

There are people who will quite happily shop in the large centres while still buttoned up in a coat with a scarf on - they're summer temperatures in those place but they wouldn't go out dressed like that in July.
Personally I'd rather shops be much cooler as you can always add layers if you wish to.0
