Had a day recently in York and wandered round the Shambles area taking it all in and some lovely little shops and bars and cafes. Christmas market was on with some great food and drinks. Wandered inside the Minster but didn't pay to go right round (quite expensive)
Have done the Jorvik centre previously along with ghost walks etc - its a city you could go back to time and time again

We spend a lot of time in York, we always visit the Railway Museum with our train mad little boy. Free admission, but hefty parking charge, ok if you are walking up there.

Usually visit the Golden Fleece for a pint and some nice pub grub. There are lots of snickelways - small lanes around York - to explore, google them and take a look, it is such a beautiful place and the small backstreets are fascinating.

I have a copy of this book which is a really interesting read and good guide.

Hello can anyone tell me the best area between bootham and around scarcroft rd for a 2nt b&b.

which is closest to the tourist sights?
We are thinking of the ashley house or we could use a living social voucher for the hedley house hotel which is working out around the same price.
