There is no 'achievement' on this forum, there never has been. The house price discussions are entertaining (well, sometimes) nonsense whilst on the other hand the debates about wider economic issues tend to have more depth and in some cases are quite eye-opening.

It's always been this way and the personnel on this forum are ever changing - personally I wouldn't hark back to any 'good old days' because broadly speaking apart from the users things really haven't changed much as far as I can see.

My attitude has changed though - I post less and read more; I've found that makes for a more satisfying experience, for what it's worth.

You are right about 'no achievement' (I'm probably guilty of looking back with rose coloured glasses) but about 3-4 years ago I do think there was far less pettiness and squabbling (but maybe I'm wrong maybe I just didn't get drawn into it back then). I may follow your lead and merely read more, although to be honest I don't think there is much to be gained from reading here.

No, it's always been like this! I think the reason why this board got created in the first place was to keep the nutters off the 'House Selling and Buying' board.

Still a reasonably good way to pass a bit of time for me - I just tend to have more of a think now before deciding to hit the 'Reply' button ;)

Long may it continue? Do you really mean that? What exactly do you think is being achieved here?

Don’t you find it just a bit pathetic Derv? I’m not specifically singling out geneer or indeed just bears. I am saying ALL bears and bulls that engage in these petty arguments (including myself) should have better things to do with their time.

Might as well close the forum then. If anyone who posts here (seriously, or just for fun) thinks that it will make any difference to house prices or the economy, then they are wasting their time, unless they believe in the butterfly effect.

It's called "entertainment". Some folk "waste" time/money in pubs, some "waste" time spotting trains and others "waste" time watching TV.

I think the forum will close eventually as I believe it is not readily accessible to new entrants of this website. I reckon Martin has done this as he wouldn't be too dissapointed to lose this forum board, but at the same time he probably doesn't see the need to upset the current users.

Ahh that's the difference between us then, I don't really consider this entertainment. I'm not knocking you though, each to his own. Some people think I'm mad going out running on frosty mornings (sometimes I do too, my wife certainly does). I think I'm guilty of misunderstanding the purpose of this forum (despite having been here for some time, although I don't use it that much) I came here really to help keep me up to date. But to be honest I'd struggle to identify a single piece of info that I had not come accross somewhere else.

All you can do is simply be more selective about what you read on the board, and more importantly who you read. DervProf and geneer both openly admit that they only come on here to argue with strangers. If you just skip past their posts and especially their thread then you'll find that your enjoyment of this particular board increases.

Fortunately I don’t particularly spend a lot of time here and I’m getting close to spending far less (if any) time here. The time that I do spend on this forum board brings nothing but dissatisfaction when I reflect upon what a waste of time it is. I will carry on with the ‘pets and pet care’ and ‘savings and investment’ forums, because intelligent discussions and information sharing takes place there. Can you put your hand on your heart and say that about this board? This place has changed dramatically in the last few years.

Doesn't anyone else feel this way, am I alone in thinking this and everyone else is content to continue spending time here achieving (what I perceive to be) very little?

    Oh please.
You really thought he was being serious?
    Sarcasm?
No wonder you have such problems handling geneer. You're here to achieve things? :rotfl:

If you can't cope with the arguments, petty bickering, simple taunts, childish pictures and circular "debates" then you need to follow your own advice and move on.
As Derv says, it's amusing from time to time.

Pick a player and wind 'em up.

It just so happens (can't imagine why) that a few are picking on geneer at the moment, but he loves it and can evidently cope with it.
People who have to announce "ignore-fests" and virtually beg others to join in need to take a deep breath and move on to the Pets forum. All IMO of course.

It's good to know you could never be accused of the same.
    :roll eyes:
I'm sure your pictures fall into the "educational" category but some might not quite see that.

Oh I admit I sometimes get drawn into the arguments, especially when I'm at a loose end. :)

Have you noticed though that it's always with the same idiots (geneer, dervprof, graham devon and mcc100)?

    Funny that.

Why do you keep making things up about me ?

I don't know exactly what geneer has openly admitted, but I think you'll find that I haven't said that I only come here to argue with strangers.

I suspect that you'll find that there are those who quite enjoy what I and geneer type. I don't doubt that there are those who don't, but stop trying to make people's minds up for them.
Now the board seems to be dominated by precious metal freaks, obvious sockies and the likes of geneer and dervprof who constantly want an internet rumble (Christ, their lives must be 'king empty).

Says the man who seems to spend a fair amount of time responding in those "rumbles".

"geneer and dervprof". You weren't typing that several moths ago, were you, Mr "I'm a great judge of character, and I know that geneer and dervprof are the same person" ?

Oh yes, I'll respond now and because I always get the better of you, you hate it so. You much prefered it when I ignored your jibes and let you get away with them. :)
