Expert prediction for 2012: Down!

http://www.guardian.co.uk/money/poll/2011/dec/20/house-prices-2012-expert-predictions

Nationwide has gone into "impossible to predict mode".
Like they did throughout 2008.

On balance, down it is.

Nationwide's boss was way off message in November 2008 when he was reported as saying this then..
The UK's largest building society today said it expected house prices to continue to fall next year as it announced it had cut lending by more than two-thirds.

Nationwide Building Society's chief executive Graham Beale said house prices would continue to fall by 1% to 1.5% a month for the rest of the year and there would be further price drops in 2009-10.

You've got a memory like a sieve - I'm sure we only talked about this a couple of days ago. I think you had evidence that Nationwide were part of some house ramping conspiracy. You know: the evidence you weren't able to produce.

They would be right. It's impossable to predict the future.

You appear to have mistaken a Nationwide staff member for "nationwide", and earlier in the year for "now".

  • only predictions of course, all of them by one form of VI or other. so nothing to [depending on the way you 'lean' on these things] crow or weep about.

one thing i'm pleased about is that they didn't ask, whathisname, Stuart Law from Assetz. a company that runs property seminars & whatnot is probably [even if they're talking sense] too strong a VI to be really credible.
    FACT.

I think you are confusing hypothesis in science with GCSE fortune telling.

You don't predict the future in science you hypothesize, and then test it.

I am sure Albert Einstein would not have developed the theory of relativity if he could have predicted the future.

    I don't think I am champ.
Its ol' Dan who doesn't appear to be aware of the difference.
