I've bought my fresh veg already. I've taken it out the plastic bags and put it in my crisper draw. It should be fine by Sunday. I prep mine on Xmas eve though.
What matters most is how well you walk through the fire

    I'm afraid I won't be much inspiration.

    Roast potatoes
    Sprouts
    Parsnips :o

And only one of those is roasted :o the other two go in a saucepan of water.
  • we are planning;
    mashed pots
    roast pots
    carrots
    sprouts
    peas
    broccoli

quite boring really but what we always have...i was wondering when to buy will try to get out tomorrow veg will be fine in the fridge and already got a sack of pots
    onwards and upwards
  • roast potatoes
    boiled potatoes
roast parsnips in some kind of honey/mustard concoction
    sprouts, steamed
    carrots, steamed
braised red cabbage (already done and in the freezer).

OP your list sounds lovely, do you actually need anything else??

When should I buy my Veg so I know it is going to be fresh for Christmas day? Also how many days can you leave your Turkey Crown defrosting for? I don't have room in my freezer and I have put off buying it
Anytime now is fine for your veg, as long as its okay when you buy it, then it still will be at the weekend. You can bet your bottom dollar its already been sat about for weeks as it is anyway ;)

The turkey crown will say on the packaging the defrost time. I'm thinking you would have to buy it the evening before Christmas Eve or early Christmas Eve depending on the weight. HTH

Lolz. I don't really need anything else - I just enjoy having the variety. I'm going to plan my cooking and check if I can actually fit all the food on the hob/in the oven before I buy anything though.

I don't cook much of each vegetable dish so it's not too costly. Most of our christmas spend goes on the drinks!
  • twinkle_star, I know what you mean could always do some kind of creamed celeriac - this is seasonal and a bit different - and could be cooked a little earlier and keep warm in a serving dish to free up hob space. Hugh FW would have a recipe online for it...

ellawood, braised red cabbage is nice (I did a Nigella version, just google it) - long slow cooking with onion, apples, Christmas spices and wine/port/sherry or similar. My recipe actually called for pomegranate juice but I didn't have that, nor any alcohol, so I used veg stock with a tblsp of redcurrant jelly dissolved in it. The best thing about this dish is that you can cook it in advance, freeze it and then defrost and reheat slowly on Christmas day - it improves with age! I will reheat in my slow cooker to save hob space - bonus!

  • we will have cauliflower and broccoli in cheese sauce with leeks
    sprouts
    carrots
mashed carrots and neep (swedes or turnips or whatever everyone calls them)
    peas
    roasted parsnips
    roasted pots

    think thats about it.
