Hello all,
I know there's already a christmas menu thread but I was specifically wondering what vegetables you all do/like for Christmas dinner.
For a lot of people I know they seem to be a bit of an afterthought but for me Christmas dinner wouldn't be right without a fair number of veg rounding out the plate. However, I really don't like it when I get served non-christmassy veg for christmas dinner! So for me there's no sugar snap peas, courgettes, etc.
But what do you all like?
At the moment my veg selection is:
Roast potatoes
Boiled potatoes (FIL likes them more than roasties!)
Roast parsnips
Mashed winter roots with an oniony crumb topping
Steamed sprouts tossed with oil, crispy sage and chestnut pieces
Carrots (with cumin and orange or maybe a maple syrup glaze - still considering)
Braised red cabbage with apples and red wine
Something else - inspire me please!

I love loads of veg and DDs and DS do too and the DDs can't wait to have the table covered with dishes - they love that way of serving food but I rarely do it just for us these days.
I am doing Christmas dinner tomorrow for my friend, her DS and my DDs - it will be slightly scaled down but will still do leeks in cheese sauce, honey glazed carrots, peas and brocolli.0 -

we always have parsnips, carrots and sprouts plus sometime red cabbage of green beans. I try and mix up what I do with the veg a bit.
this year we are having the carrots and parsips roasted with thyme, the sprouts steamed then fried in butter with chestnuts, roast spuds and lemony green beansPeople seem not to see that their opinion of the world is also a confession of character.

A little question, which I hope you don't mind me asking.
Christmas day is on Sunday, today is Tuesday (there is a point to this I'm not really just showing I know this stuff)
When should I buy my Veg so I know it is going to be fresh for Christmas day? Also how many days can you leave your Turkey Crown defrosting for? I don't have room in my freezer and I have put off buying it
Thanks for all your help
I am making Christmas dinner for 8 people this year, have been fine making it for 5 people last 2 years but just a little jittery

Hope is not a strategy...A child is for life, not just 18 years....Don't get me started on the NHS, because you won't win...I love chaz-ing!
