Thank you for all the suggestions. I think I will buy him a rucksack and put in a new hat, scarve, gloves, socks, sleeping bag, a thermo flask (I hope he can fill it with hot drink often), a few fleece jumpers. Maybe I will forget the tent. I will see if I can buy the dog a jacket to wear also. I think I will get a few dog treats. Now I just hope he is there today.
  • How lovely CATS :) Thats a fantastic idea. :D

I normally end up being involuntary nasty to homeless people. On a night out once i bought some chips, wasnt enjoying them particular so decided i didnt want anymore. Saw someone on the street across the road so thought i'd give the rest tohim. He was mega grateful and it made me feel better, about 2 mins later the guilt kicked in, the reason i wasnt enjoying them because they were far too salty. For most not a problem but for someone who is homeless the amount of water he would of needed wouldve lasted him a week!

Agree with the poster that most homeless people do have somwhere to go at night for a bit of respite. We also had a 'homeless guy' in our town who when he died left 500k in a bank account. He had a public funeral and loads of townfolk turned up for it. He was a popular/notorious homeless guy though.

What your suggesting giving him sounds like a fantastic present and am certain it will be greatly appreciated.

He'll sell it all for drugs or booze probably - or lose it. You'd be better off buying him a hot drink and asking one of the outreach organisations to speak to him.

What a wonderful gift..I hope there is such a thing as karma as you surely will be due some points..:T

Oh and the local council , Y and shelters can fill his flask for free and surprisingly some local fast food places will do it as well.

Oh and maybe think about a set of thermal underwear..long johns etc as they are a god send against the cold

  • If you give him HM items (knitted things) or food it would show how much you care x

I think whatever you do it is very kind of you to want to help him (and his dog)

This post OP is what xmas is all about, forget the presents and abundance of food. It's the generosity and the kindness of something from a complete stranger that says that the world still cares and is full of peace, love and goodwill after all. Well done you and what an amazing thing to want to do.

I'm fortunate that where I live I never see any homeless people out and about but I did go on a night out once in my local city and on seeing a bunch of homeless people with their dogs I stayed and chatted to them all night instead and had an amazing time. After 2 hours of talking with them I went to the local 24 hours place and bought lots of food for the dogs and food that would last them all for a few days. Ive never enjoyed a night out more.

ok I have just been out to my lunch and bought a rucksack a sleeping bag, which is not very expensive but hopefully should be ok. Thermal under base, hat, scarve, gloves, fleece top, and the thermal flask. Only thing I could not find is the dog jacket and the dog treats. really annoyed. Poor dog :( but everything around here is for office workers so the supermarkets dont have the dog food and today is my last day at work until Jan!!!! I dont know what to do. I am so excited and hope he likes the things. Some times I feel like I take, take, take from the world and don't give back often enough, so I am very excited about this. Will update to his reaction, I hope its positive
