Never seen the point , we dont do his and hers money and if we want or need anything we buy it anyway?

Each to their own - if it works for you, that's absolutely fine ! We don't have his & hers money either, but still buy a present. Christmas isn't necessarily about if one needs something......

I doubt it. I know one of my friends and her OH aren't exchanging gifts this year as they are moving house etc, so thought it best to just leave it this year.

Simply because it's nice to give the person you love, something they will like/love/enjoy. To surprise them with something they wouldn't usually get for themselves. It also helps to show them how much you care about them, which is why the cheaper gifts can often be great, as it shows you pay attention to the smaller things (I'm thinking favourite foods, treats etc here).

Well, that's why I do it anyway. Maybe other people are different, I don't know.

Edit: The gift that my OH loves the most, is the cheapest gift I ever got him. A picture frame, to replace the broken one which held a painting that his late Grandad had painted. I bought that for him the 1st year I moved here, as I was absolutely skint, so my budget for his 30th Birthday was under 20 euro, but he loves it. Keeps the painting safe, and proudly on display. :D

    Got mines

A nice pair of jeans (he dresses like a tramp half the time and I want him to look respectable at the birth of our child :o if I can't he has to :p )
This jumper, in the grey colour
    His favourite aftershave
A pack of socks, that are easy matching!
The complete Blackadder Boxset (which hasn't arrived yet  )
A little baby grow that has "I love Daddy" on the front :o

Just got to get some sort of sweet/chocolate now, as we do that every year.
The frontier is never somewhere else. And no stockades can keep the midnight out.

I buy my hubby things throughout the year if I think he'll like whenever I see them (and can afford them) so Christmas is no big deal, and he would get something if I saw something, and nothing if I didn't!

Also there's rarely any occasions when he actually wants things (apart form computer games and he normally wants and gets them as soon as they are released), it's bad enough thinking of things family can buy him for Christmas and birthdays.
So long as he has his computer and plenty of chocolate (and I mean every day of the year, not on special occasions) he's happy!

Anyway... one thing he would like this year is a hoodie from Animal.
A waist is a terrible thing to mind.

dh and i bought each other some trees for the garden. In addition we fill a stocking for each other (we each made one for the other some years ago which we stuff with gifts each year. :)) In his so far this year is a beautiful pair of cufflinks (dh likes such things and these are the main gift), some bath stuff (we like to bath together but our bath is a bit puny so we tend to one be in the bath while the other sits and chats these days) some massage oil....only that's mainly for me I hope ;) a choolate orangem a real orange, a pair of slippers (he's always leaving his slippers somewhere in the huse then having to look for them for ages) then some traditional socks, and pants. :) My dad and I are going christmas shopping tomorrow so if I see any thing else he'd like I'll add that too....we usually give ech other some books too, but haven't done that yet this year.

New paramour is a horticulturalist who enjoys the exotic and esoteric. He's very active with high energy levels, which is a plus for his hands on job, but has an injury that is stopping him from running around for fun at the next year. He's good with his hands and fixes his houses himself, but also reads extensively and likes the theatre. He's also an enthusiastic practical joker.
As his time won't be taken up with training for the foreseeable future, why not get him a joint birthday and Crimbo present - National Trust membership?

we buy each other little gifts, take each other out for lunch, send little cards or notes spontaneously all year round as well as all the other day in day out stuff we do for each other to demonstrate that we care BUT I still want to give him a christmas present and also love getting one - I love the effort that hubby puts into find something for me and the excitment it gives him, just like I love the feeling fo finding the perfect thing for him and anticipation of waiting to give it to him. Yeah its all joint money but there is no way I'd take £200 out of our account and buy myself a vintage bracelet with it...
