Parking over a private driveway

Wow, what a lot of rude posts! :rotfl:
FWIW sparky, I read your post and thought 'what a kn0b' but not about you, about the neighbourhood idiot who was so sad as to take photos of the van from various angles and phone the Police, rather than just call over to you when you were at the van or to knock on the front door where you were working.
Yes, if you were overlapping a driveway it must have p'eed him off a bit but it's pathetic IMHO to take photos like some sort of detective, thinking the Police could act on them (which they couldn't, as your van had gone).
Don't give it another thought. Some people are always after a fight.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

Sparky1989 I am old school too and if I was the neighbour I would have simply knocked and asked you to move your van. However in the persons defence and the way things are these days it may have been the best way too report it to the police rather then confront you. As you have said you would have "sorted it" or may of, which could have led to a more serious incident!
If parking were you did makes you a kn0b or not only you will know, if you parked believing it was not a problem for anyone, or whether you parked not giving a toss about the neighbours only you know!
Unfortunately these days we have two problems people who park wherever they like to suit themselves causing problems, and others who think they have a god given right to park outside their own property or stop anyone else parking near their property!0 -

Instead offering your wisdom as above perhaps Sparky1989 instead of blaming everyone else accepted that he was in the wrong, and the person whose drive he was obstructing had every right to do what he did, if you hadn't of parked as you did the problem wouldn't have existed and why should someone come looking for you? perhaps you wouldn't have been happy to be in my position the other day, I arrived at my Daughters at 10.30am to find a van parked in a 1/2 hr time limited bay was overhanging the bay by about 3 foot, although his wheels were in the bay, it was impossible to get into my daughters off street parking which has a dropped kerb and a single yellow line on the road. I parked at the front and left the van driver a polite note asking him not to leave his vehicle parked overhanging the bay and blocking my daughters parking bay, as I couldn't get into her parking bay due to the way he was parked.
I also left a note on my windscreen for the traffic warden explaining why I'd left my car where I had on the yellow line ( I had all my tools in the car as I was going to do some work on the house for her) and where I was, which was about 10 yards away, and could they please speak to me.
Expecting the van to move I popped out every 10 minutes to see if it had gone so that I could then park off the road, an hour later the van was still there when I looked, only to find that a traffic warden issuing me with a £70 ticket, I tried to explain to the warden but he wasn't interested, I was parked illegally and that was that, when I pointed out the the van overhanging the parking bay was stopping me getting into my daughters parking they said they couldn't do anything as the wheels were in the bay.
I also pointed out that it at been parked over an hour in 1/2hr time limited parking, but as they hadn't seen it earlier they said they couldn't issue a penalty notice for that either as they had to see it for themselves.
I left at 3.30pm and the van was still there, and still didn't have a ticket so it seems the Warden never came back, according to my daughter it finally went sometime between 5.30pm and 6.30pm.
so much for 1/2hour parking.
I've now had to appeal the penalty, did I take photos,? yes I did.
So don't go blaming the bloke whose drive you blocked, look at it from his point of view and put the blame where it belongs, on yourself, and think yourself lucky the police didn't give you a ticket.
Thanks to some inconsiderate A--- H-- E who couldn't be bothered to park correctly, or for the posted time limit, I've got to either win the appeal or cough up £70.:mad::mad::mad::mad:0 -

Not saying they didn't have a right to take photos but it was pointless and pathetic, whereas in the original case on this thread, knocking on a few doors would have got the OP's van moved if the neighbour with the camera had thought about it. How did it help that the idiot took photos 'from various angles'?! How would it have helped if you did the same? The point is it's pointless behaviour. No photos taken by a homeowner could be used as evidence for any ticket against an alleged miscreant. As the CEO said, they have to see the contravention for themselves.
I never condone bad parking but the photos from every angle and calling the Police was pathetic, since the Police cannot do anything if there is no car trapped in the driveway. In fact I would say the neighbour wasted the Police's time.
Dare I ask, did you knock on a door or two to get the van moved? Dodgy to risk a ticket and just seethe without trying to get the van moved up a bit. I would have double parked briefly, and loudly beeped my horn to get the van driver to scuttle out and hopefully move the van up.
Anyway, here's some useful help for you if your appeal is rejected (which it will be because Councils always do at first). Here's pepipoo forums:

Why not post a new topic there now with a pic of the front & back of the PCN to see if there is any formal appeal they can suggest for you? Most people get off most Council PCNs on there.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

Sorry but why should it be down to the owner of the drive to come and find you to move your van.
Whether you parked two inches or two feet over his drive, you still parked over his drive. And regardless of whether he could get his Corsa in or not, you should have knocked and got permission first. It's common courtesy. If you can't park without causing inconvenience then don't park.0
