Yes, I knew that, but it gives a minimum for the water pressure in the mains.

Not really, it gives the pressure in the sealed system.

The longer you pressurise the system - from the mains inlet - the higher the pressure will read.

The gauge gives no guide to the pressure in the mains.

If you unscrewed one of the radiators and turned on the mains inlet, the gauge would read zero - and water would flow at mains pressure all over the lounge carpet.

if the pressure is low, it could be that there is a leak in the property and the boiler needs topping up with water... its an easy job.. look on the internet for the boiler make and read how to top up the water reservoir. If the pressure drops again, it has to be because there is a leak in the system somewhere.

OP - do you open windows after showering, and cooking and do you heat the property ?

It cannot read higher than the mains static pressure, can it?
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

    No it can't.

Mains pressure varies, but is usually reckoned to be between 3 and 5 bar.

A combi's central heating system operates between 1 and 2 bar.

To get a mains pressure reading from the gauge, you would have to pressurise the central heating system to mains pressure.

That would involve over-pressurising the system by possibly more than double, which is not something to be recommended.

If the medical issues are the landlords fault speak to a no win/no fee personal injury lawyer.

dodgy and dangerous wardrobe fixings LOL WUT?

low water pressure Can you not just turn the pressure up on the stopcock?

    thanks

I really want to hear what 'dangerous' wardrobe fixings are.
  • Please don't be unkind. The OP has already stated that they're verging on a breakdown and I don't doubt it. Or blame them either. I would be too with fleas, no heating and hot-water in the middle of winter, never mind all the other stuff.

You're missing the point, I'm afraid. The OP complained of low mains water pressure, so this is a simple way of getting a very rough idea of whether it really is low. If the gauge on the combi says the best part of 2 bars, that indicates that mains water pressure is at least 2 bars, which I would expect would be sufficient water pressure for most purposes. A properly functioning combi would not refuse to heat the water with 1-2 bars pressure, would it?

If you have a better idea, please say so.

BTW, I have actually installed a combi boiler. How many have you installed?

As Jc808 says, it's worth checking that the stopcock is fully on. It's usually under the sink.
