I have a kitchen door that won't stay completely open and its annoying me. I want to make a doorstop, but can't find a pattern. I am a realtive novice at sewing (coming back to it after a long spell away) but can handsew and have a machine at my disposal.
I bought an oilcloth style tablecloth for the table, and there is loads of extra fabric - could I use this? Alternatively, I can get matching cotton.
any help and guidance and ideas greatfully recieved.
I can't promise that all my replies will illicit this responser.mac, you are so wise and wonderful, that post was lovely and so insightful! 0 0

I'm not sure if oilcloth would work r.mac but if you had a circle of ordinary fabric I would lay that out, put whatever you're using as a weight in the middle, gather up the cloth and tie with a ribbon.0

We had a patio door that always swung closed, kept it open with a cushion for 18 years! (it did wear out in the end)
 (the cushion, not the door)0

I remember when I was a kid we were told to bring in the biggest pebble or smooth stone we could find - we decorated it, varnished it and took it home to Mum as a door stop. She still has it in the living room, some 25-odd years later.Live better on less :beer:0

You could get a housebrick or large stone, cut a piece of pretty fabric large enough and wrap it as if it was a present, tuck the raw edges in then either catch the material together with some stitches or a few safety pins.0
