Home made door stop

We've finally finished the nursery for our little baby boy who is due in April. The door has a tendancy to slam shut and as there is not enough gap under the door for a wedge I thought I'd try my hand at making a door stop.
I plan to convert this cuddly chicken by removing the stuffing and refilling him with something heavy.

I'm struggling to think what to use though. I was thinking rice but don't think that will be heavy enough as he needs to be quite weighty.
Can I ask what people would suggest?
Best wishes
MMS
PS no bird flu jokes about the chicken!

Have a look on Ebay, there are a lot of people who make handmade doorstops there using oddments of laura ashley fabric, etc..
They usually tell you in the description what they actuall fill them with, which may give you some good ideas.
I think you might get away with the rice though, as you could fit quite a lot in that old chook by the looks of it!

That's so cute, I want one
How about some gravel, the fine stuff? I don't advocate going in peoples gardens though if you haven't got any :rotfl: 0 -
I'd second the dried lentils.CC2 = £8687.86 ([STRIKE]£10000[/STRIKE] )CC1 = £0 ([STRIKE]£9983[/STRIKE] ); Reusing shopping bags savings =£5.80 vs spent £1.05.Wine is like opera. You can enjoy it even if you don't understand it and too much can give you a headache the next day J0

Helpful suggestions thanks. I've looked at the Tesco online grocery site and it looks like rice is much cheaper than lentils, I can get 1kg of value long grain rice for 49p so I'll probably go with that
Gravel could have been an idea as we've got lots of the stuff, trouble is the neighbours cats think its their litter tray!
Lets hope the baby appreciates the effort I'm making!

if you live near the seaside, could you obtain a large rock, and pack around that with rice/lentils etc for bulk and extra weight?know thyselfNid wy'n gofyn bywyd moethus...0

I would used big lentils over rice, just incase you get a leak
easier to clear up. Although if you do a little internal cotton bag then that's safer too...
If you object to using foodstuffs for non-food use (ie wasting it) then sand is good.0 -
Many thanks to everyone for the advice. In the end I went for rice inside a bag as that was the cheapest. He took over 2kg of rice in the end.
Here is the finished result, I think he looks fab.
We've now named him Mr Paxo as he's been stuffed.
Thanks again
