What is self insuring, do you mean do nothing?
No I don't. I mean stick your £84 a year in a building society account or something similar. You are overrexposed in year 1 but after trhat you get ahead. Equally if you start during mfrs warranty period then you'll build up a nice little lump sum that can be used in due course and might also actually pay for the replacement boiler when its needed.
I believe £84 /yr is good value for piece of mind and many other would agree.
I agree too - see above - but I certanly wouldn't trust Homeserve with my dosh. I notice you haven't commented on that.

    Cheers

  • I normally go on a long holiday in winter leaving my adult children at home and need the assurance that Homeserve provide.
Yes they have been called on two previous occasions and solved the problem with a minimum of fuss. I would definately recommend but you can always try British Gas or sorry I mean German Gas.

Oh many gas chaps/plumbers/heating engineers make a point of drawing in a sharp intake of breath the first time they see someone elses work. Its an almost Python-esque trait. Dont take any notice and as for talk of "emptying the condenser"..this is a load of old tosh...are you sure it wasnt your DC wobbulator that had been negglected or the fluffer valve...?

As for squabbles as to proper titles for different people...well..GSR is a load of tripe...There are too many bodgers and get rich scamsters. All they do is pitch up at some half baked training centre, pay a wad of cash and pass..thats it.
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..

    @ the OP.

What is the make and model of boiler?

Now you know better than that. Its obvious that although the queech is obulating and the urfer consequently curling up, in this instance the rumption is failing to get hot.

Oh you can't be seriously still harbouring thoughts of some sort of daft revenge revenge over THIS ONE can you? Of course you can argue with me if you want. When I'm wrong at least I'm prepared to say so on the open forum and apologise if necessary, but when I'm right I'm more than happy to fight my corner - simples.

I would normally self insure. However, in the case of a boiler you need someone to came ASAP. (I have never had a boiler fault that didn't happen during the coldest weather.) If you have BG contract they will come very quickly, and in my opinion, this is a good reason for having a contract with them. I would also agree that Homeserve are rubbish.from my experience.
I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.

Your experience should tell you that the service /fault finding and remedy is every dependant on the tradesman. My experience contradicts yours.
I do admit that British Gas are quick to respond but they have a tendancy to send contracted-out tradesmen with little knowledge of Valliant/Gloworm Condensing boilers. Hence the reason for using Homeserve - speak as you find they have always given me good service in the past, and I hope it continues.
