Our poor cat who was 17 years old could not move this morning, dragged herself out of her bed, soiled herself and was making an unholly meowing! seeing that she was in obvious distress we took her to our vet!
He examined her and said that her back leg was fused and had been for some time! what utter rubbish, she had been playing with our dog only yesterday! made us feel lke we had neglected her! we decided to have her put to sleep because she was in so much distress. The vet showed not one ounce of compassion, just went out got the permission form and injection, came back in and put her to sleep! We said thank you, through our tears and he just turned his back and left the room!!
I can't beleive we have been treated like this, she has had a fantastic life! i'm so upset at the moment and just don't know what to do!!
On the other hand the nurse that attended was lovely! so kind and considerate and full of understanding!!
Our cat is now in her favourite place in the garden!

I am sorry for you loss.
you could write to the practice manager and explain your concerns about this particular vet.0 -
Sorry to hear about your cat. Seventeen is a good age and I'm sure you gave her a very happy life.
The vet needs reminding. Send the letter."If you think it's expensive to hire a professional to do the job, wait until you hire an amateur." -- Red Adair0 -
To you your cat was a family member...to this particular 'Vet' it was just another cat between coffee breaks!
I doubt you're the first to be treated without consideration by this person. Certainly write your concerns to the practice, just make sure your letter gets to the right person.
(What ever happened to 'Bed side manner'?)Yes, I usually tell it as I see it and respond where I see the need, but never are my comments ment to be taken personally.0 -

I'd write to them aswell.
Most vets are lovely, but you get the occassional bad one or one having a bad day. I would have been a vet myself, but I'm terrible at chemisty and you need an A at A-level in it to have a chance of getting into one of the 7 universities that offer veterinary science as a degree.
I've tried several vet surgeries since I moved here in 2009 - I moved on to my current one after the previous vet told me one of my rats was clinically obese, but he was actually happily within normal weight ranges and if he had dropped down to the weight the vet said was 'normal' he would have been skin and bones. Anyway about a year later on one of my girl rats became suddenly ill on a Sunday and the vets I use now are closed on Sunday's, so I rang up the old vets and took her there as they do open on Sunday's. As soon as we got in the room the vet asked which surgery we usually go to, so I told him and he had a go at me for 'taking advantage of their cheap services' when I don't normally use them anymore, before he even looked at her! I was too stunned to say anything, especially as I was so worried about my girl as she was really ill (pulled through in the end).
On the plus side my current vet surgery are lovely even if they don't open Sunday's - I think I've seen every vet in there at one time or another and I like all of them, they send me cards every time I have to have one of my rats put down, which I think is a lovely gesture.£2012 in 2012 member #15: £651.55/£20120 -
Sorry for your loss. Leave it a few days though before you write the letter. At the moment you are only thinking in the haze of grief for your cat. A measured letter is more likely to get a better response.'The More I know about people the Better I like my Dog'

So sorry for your loss. As others have said our pets become family members, especially after 17 years.
I would also write the letter and to be honest i would not miss them and hit the wall. There is no excuse for his contempt and lack of empathy.0 -
I wouldn't take it personally, my sister is a vet nurse and she said most vets that she has worked with are a bit lacking in compassion. It comes with the territory I suppose - you get de-sensitized to such things when you deal with it day in day out.0
