  • I could cry...
Took my kids out today to see Santa, and the car packed up when I got home. It's booked into the garage for tomorrow morning but unless a miracle happens it will completely blow this weeks budget. I rarely get change from 50 quid when the car lands in the garage.
Apart from that £4.80 spent on hot chocolates and tea while we were out in the freezing cold during the day.

    Hi all

Wannabee- so sorry about car, they are such a financial nightmare.

    Spends so far -

Sun - £5.68 (Papers, milk & fire lighters)
    Mon - I managed an NSD:D
Tues - £27.58 more Xmas shopping.

    Total - £45/£11.74

The budget isn't going to survive this week as I need to buy a tin of sweets. I finish work tomorrow so if I hibernate I could do it :rotfl:

    Hi all :santa2:

Sorry to hear about the car wannabee, it sucks I know. Have spent £274 on mine at the beginning of November, have car tax end of this month (budgeted thank goodness!) and then 4x new tyres and MOT in January. Unfortunately cannot do without it - no bus service here as in the sticks and 26ish miles from work!! Anyway, I can sympathise!

Sorry for getting here so late today, busy day at work for me and then went straight to a friends house for our girlie Christmas get together and present exchange which was fun. We had Chinese, which was bad on the hips and the purse, however luckily I have managed to squeeze mine from my food budget so haven't eaten into spends (challenge) money. Also bought cigs, but used the change from my surplus pot which is now down to about £14...d'oh (looks like week after Christmas will be tight!!! But again, not from official spends budget. However, I also (naughty!) bought food from sandwich lady and that did have to come from this budget...

    Updated:

  • How's this for blowing the budget? Cost of car repairs £362.30
So much for £50. And there was me hoping it was something small. I've had to clear out all of my savings as well as what was left in my current account to pay for it.
I so need to build up an emergency fund.
Hope everyone else is ok. It's very quiet on here today.

  • Wannabee sorry to hear about the car, it always happens at the worst possible time:(

Sorry folks haven't been round much as been trying to do all the xmas chores I have been putting off for weeks. I was on a half day today and managed to get most of the food stuff organised. Fridge is now bulging I am scared to open it. Still got to do baking for work tomorrow and wrap secret santa gift. Feeling tired already need some:coffee:
As for spending I have totally lost track of what is out of my budgets and what is out of groceries and xmas. I am also going for a few xmas drinks after work tomorrow night and out for a team lunch on Friday so looks like a big fat red for me:(

:santa2: Merry Xmas everyone I am finally starting to feel festive:D

    Hi all :santa2:

Sorry to hear about the astronomical car costs wannabee, typical to happen this time of year. Fingers crossed it'll be alright for a while after this big spend...

First post updated chris81418, well done on another purple week!!!

Sorry for getting here so late again today, I had a half day as well pp! Basically I nipped into Tesco then came home and watched the Inbetweeners movie that my colleague burned for me while I had my lunch (it was very very funny, but I'm a HUGE Inbetweeners fan so may be biased!). Then I fell asleep (!) - I'm constantly tired at the moment - and woke up at half six!!! Then went down to friends to take Christmas pressies and have last catch up before Christmas, and stayed for tea, so didn't leave till gone ten. Got home at 1045 ish then had to do everything I should have done this afternoon, hence I'm up so late, again!

Basically tomorrow night I have my work christmas do, and I'm staying in a (paid for by co.) hotel then straight to work Friday morning. So had to make sure I have lists written so I don't forget anything as have loads of stuff to bring in tomorrow as exchanging presents with a friend in work tomorrow, plus we're doing our annual smoked salmon and bagel Christmas breakfast, just us two, it's our little tradition and we usually do it the day we "break up" for Christmas, but we thought we might be hungover on Friday and not fancy it, so having it Thursday instead! (This year I've done really well, Tesco Value Smoked Salmon Trimmings [which are delish by the way] 98p, Tesco Extra Light Soft Cheese £1.07, Tesco Horseradish 63p or similar, seedy bagels £1.35 - she'll give me money towards it tomorrow but I won't take half as it'll likely be me that takes home the leftovers)

Anyway, huge post, sorry! I have spent today, but all from surplus pot and food budget. Surplus pot is down to pennies now...boo.

I'm not going to be on tomorrow unless I pop on during the day, as will be going straight to hotel after work to get ready for do at 7, so very little time, however I'm not planning on spending anything until the evening anyway.

So I'll assume I won't be here tomorrow, and I'll see you all Friday!

Enjoy your Christmas drinks as well pp!
