Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Sunday 18th December. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

Morning all
Very frosty here this morning, but we did all our shopping yesterday so we won't be going out today apart from for a walk if it's not too slippery out.
I tidied the living room yesterday, put the decorations up & made another wreath, today it will be tidying the study & kitchen & I need to mop the kitchen floor too.
Roast pork for dinner today with roasties, veg & stuffing balls.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester

  • Morning Hester!

I've been up since 2am! I am now so tired!!!! My mind is going crazy and round and round! DH thinks the baby is coming in the next week because he says I have 'Pre-Labour' symptoms (I'm not sure it's not wishful thinking)... and regardless of that I just realised that I am full term tomorrow and I can't believe I made it here! So my brain won't shut off... I will blame him once he's up :D

I have to go to Church this morning and have a really busy day, not sure how I am going to manage on so little sleep though :(

    Hope all is well x

Hope everyone has a good day x

    Hi everyone.

JulieGeorgiana - good luck whenever it happens! Just make sure you get some proper sleep now, because you're going to need it!

Well, I've been MIA for a few days. As usual, I have been dealing with a lot of red tape here, and I have made a concerted effort to get as many loose ends tied up before we leave for the UK on Thursday. I've managed to get loads done but the house has been badly neglected, so yesterday was spent mostly cleaning, and today I hope to catch up on present-wrapping. I can't believe it's only four more sleeps until we go; this last week has really rushed by.

I know I moan about France practically all the time, but I had to have a routine blood test (just part of the health check here). I was given a prescription for this, so I just turned up at the lab on Friday (no appointment needed), had the test and was back in the car within ten minutes, and the results arrived by post yesterday, just twenty-four hours later! Very impressive! I have to take the results back to the doctor; hopefully, I'll get an appointment before we go away.

Well, this is meant to be a quick post, so I'd better get on; I've already got the WM on and I want to get loads done today, if I can.

Dinner will be roast pork, veggies (haven't decided which ones yet), roast potatoes and gravy.

Take care, everyone, and I hope you all have a good Sunday.

Morning all - Good luck JG - let us know how you get on!! Had one glass of wine yesterday so today have the hangover of all hangovers - and yes it was just the one glass! Today will be a house cleaning day and catching up with all the washing as it needs doing. Need to get my head around next week and work out what needs to come out of the freezer when.

Looks like next week will be mild and wet - so no snow for christmas then! Off to see what I can salvedge from the kitchen. Apologies for any spelling mistakes, cat has juyst sat on my chest in front of the computer so I can't see what I#'m tyyping!!
Me, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx

March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.
  • Good morning everyone...
Looks really icy outside this morning. I'm pleased that I don't have to go out until 9am. I do some extra tutoring Sundays, and for the first time in months, the money isn't already reserved elsewhere. Yay! This afternoon we're off to a party at my local football stadium. The kids are members of the junior supporters team and this is one of the freebies that they get. I've never been before but they are very excited about the whole thing.
Still no time for me to get any present wrapping done but I still have a week yet. I'm so far behind this year it's unbelievable.
JulieGeorgiana - hope you're doing ok. My sister is expecting her 3rd - was due last Wednesday but is still waiting and utterly fed up. She says the thing she misses the most is sleep - her youngest at the moment is 6 so I think she's probably forgotten just how much sleep she will be missing in the coming months. Hope you manage to get through the day ok.

    Hi All,

    Very frosty here this morning.

Cat got up every hour last night, scratching the carpet and meowing! Finally let him out at 4am. That cat flap can't come soon enough!:rotfl:

Going out to Wakehurst Place today with a friend. We tried twice last year and got snowed in both times! The forecast today is wintery showers, so hope we don't get stuck!
Having lunch in a pub, so not sure what yet.

Listening to Radio Sussex at the moment and they are playing Christmas Carols, very festive!:T

Juliegeorgina-The baby will come when it's ready, but try and get some sleep, even if it's only a nap. Hope it comes soon for you though!

    Kathy- Safe journey Thursday.

Hester-Take it easy this week if you can, I am!

Love to everyone and if I don't get back on this week....:xmassign:

Last night was boring, I feel like I've wasted a film-watching night rolls%20eyes.gif

It's cold and frosty here so I'll be getting a bit of housework done then snuggling down on the sofa. We're going to a carol concert later, I know it'll be fab because my friends are singing/playing :D

    Morning All

Coffee pot's on - the caffinated variety too as I need a little help this morning. Not sleeping too well as the Twins are away seeing their Dad. Yesterday was very hard for them seeing him in hospital wired up to all machines and not even having enough breath to speak to them (he has pneumonia on top of everything else and no immune system because of the chemo) DS1 rang me from the hospital breaking his heart and said he'd had to leave the room because it was too hard. I told him to take a deep breath go back hold his dad's hand and tell him he loved him. They then went straight to my oldest friend and her Husband who gave them the hugs I was too far away to give - they will take them to the funeral when the time comes. I got the most beautiful texts of them last night saying how much they loved me and it set me off crying again lol.

Need to do some cleaning and cooking today and a little bit off washing too - also want to 'fine tune' the menu plan so I know what I need and update my online grocery shop for thursday as I picked some bits up over the weekend.

Can't decide whether to get my Turkey and Gammon from Marksies or the butcher....I'm also very tempted by the Soap & Glory gift set on offer in boots - I've got DH a suprise for christmas that he knows nothing about and he'll feel bad that he hasn't got me anything else ....so really it's to ease his potential guilt.....:rotfl:

Got a good lot of the presents wrapped last night - mostly all the little fiddly things so its just big stuff left. Need to pick up some more sellotape and maybe a few more sheets of wrapping paper to be on the safe side!

Bargainbird - I missed your birthday hope you had a lovely day, it was my Dad's birthday yesterday too

Hugs where they are needed and have a lovely Sunday.....7 more sleeps....:santa2:

    Morning all!

Last night ended up with a trip to A&E! I was crossingthe road at a run, and tripped and kissed the pavement! face is all cut up and a big chunk of my lip had to be cut off. It's all swollen and i have a trout pout! I am in so much pain, my teeth feel like they are falling out. Luckily was only at hospital for about 2 hours. 9pm is the optimum time to go on a Friday night FYI.

So nothing will be done today, i am going to wallow around in self pity, watch movies and drink tea. Can't eat as it;s too painfull so will cancel my meal out later.

JC - hope your dad had a nice birthday

JG - good luck if Roo does decide to make an apperance.

I'm off in search of painkillers.

Bramble that sounds awful! Can you make some soup for later and then take some brufen which will help with the swelling. I think you need to change you signature to 'Run 5k without being stopped by tarmac'!

    Take care x
