aerial suitable for digital conversion?

I didn't have to change my aerial after the Winter Hill analogue switch-off. In fact the only thing I had to do was add an attenuator to my PC TV card because the boosted Freeview signal was overloading it slightly after analogue switch-off.

I don't follow your reference to "uses cable". All my TVs are connected to the aerial splitter/amplifier with cable.

Not sure what an aerial splitter is but when I am connected to my virgin Media cable box I have a much better picture than if I am on analogue.

My current roof aerial and loft aerial both worked perfectly when we switched over fully to Freeview service - the installations are both in excess of 15 years old !!

If you get freeview now you will get it after switchover,there is no such thing as a digital aerial

In most cases you will be OK pso if you receive freeview now, but not all.

katejo - bottom line - if you're receiving all of the Freeview channels now, you'll be fine after switchover.
To get that teletext page, you need to be tuned into ITV on analogue, not freeview (or if it's a Ceefax page, BBC 1 or 2). But it sounds like you're fine.
Don't let cowboys mis-sell you an aerial!

I did get the teletext page. The message was something like "The screen test will appear shortly on the next page" but it never did actually appear. it just returned me to the tv programme on at the time.

It doesn't mention what channel you should be on, so lets try 3 since it says teletext. Try BBC1 though if it doesn't work.

No nooone sat on the remote. I was holding it. However today it has worked much better on all channels except channel 4 which didn't do the test. So it looks as though I won't need a new aerial.

I actually tried this last night! BBC 1 and BBC 2 were fine, but Teletext has stopped broadcasting on ITV and C4, and C5 (did C5 do their own?) so whilst you're supposed to test on all channels, I could only do it on 2 - in my region anyway. As you say katejo, you're getting good Freeview now, and will continue to do so after the analogue switch off, when Freeview reception will actually get better!
