''oooooooooh I'm a debt diary get me out of here''
I feel a petition coming on!
As one of the guilty Df diary writers, I sometimes think we'd be best with a sub board.
However I'd like to think that diairies serve the fore-warning purpose to newbies, about the pitfalls, tried and tested methods etc. And some people often find they relate to one diary over another because circumstances are the same etc.
But if they were on a sub-board would they be read? Like someone said previously, a lot of people read the bankruptcy thread, without actually being someone who was considering it.
in short, I dont know!
Life is too confusing enough already without big decisions like this?!
I personally wouldnt mind my diary being on a sub board because its pretty much me talking to myself anyway! Poor newbies, well anyone really, noones got time to read through 66 pages of my babbling!Wealth is not measured by currency0 -

Of course it worked! Have I ever given dodgy advice? I mean - dodgy advice very often?"Follow the money!" - Deepthroat (AKA William Mark Felt Sr - Associate Director of the FBI)

I am in favour of a sub board. Sometimes its hard to find your way around so many threads on the dfw board. It would still be the first place I went to when I logged in, but hopefully would make my favourite diaries easier to find.Lightbulb moment 30/10/06Debt at highest (30/10/06) £24 816Debt on 06/01/09 £2500Bank Charges Reclaimed from NatWest £14000

Well I'm just as guilty as I write in other people's.CAFCGirl wrote:However I'd like to think that diairies serve the fore-warning purpose to newbies, about the pitfalls, tried and tested methods etc. And some people often find they relate to one diary over another because circumstances are the same etc.
They do serve that purpose - but for lurkers, not for newbies. Newbies usually (warning grotesque generalisation ahead) just roll up and post their first questions without reading a great deal. Certainly, they don't go looking through the diaries when the letter from the bailiffs is sitting on the kitchen table.CAFCGirl wrote:But if they were on a sub-board would they be read? Yes. I would. I don't read as much of the bankruptcy thread as I used to, that's because I'm reading more "Old Style".CAFCGirl wrote:I personally wouldnt mind my diary being on a sub board because its pretty much me talking to myself anyway! The diary threads as a whole are often inspiring. I think they should be moved, not because they get in the way of things, but things get in the way of them."Follow the money!" - Deepthroat (AKA William Mark Felt Sr - Associate Director of the FBI)

Initially I thought they should stay on the front page, however after reading the arguments I think now that it should be on a sub board, sometimes I feel they do get in the way of new subjects and newbie's questions too. As long as we know where to find the sub board and the diaries I would definitely visit and read.
I think I would write a debt diary if no-one read it!!

I totally agree with SS.
I worry that people with questions about debt, who are sometimes in great distress do not get the attention they need. I very often, go through many DFW pages looking for threads that have 0,1,2 replies, and feel sad when people have not got replies that I know collectively we can all answer. My DFW knowledge is pretty good, but not total, so sometimes I just bump. I have been reading this board since it started and think it is an excellent resource, but since all these diaries started it is failing to help as many people as it was able to do in its infancy.
Personally I find the diaries self indulgent and mostly of use to the poster who created them. Some of the really massive ones will never be read by newbies, because there is so much to read.
HOWEVER, having scanned this thread it seems people do like them and I am all in favour of putting them on a another board.
With debt still growing soooooooo much this board is only going to grow, so another debt sub board will do no harm at all. I think the bankruptcy board is excellent and people really get the attention they need.
So, as an old timer I vote for a sub board.0 -

So what chance of it happening?! Shall we have a poll to find out what people really think? Obviously, still no guarantee that Martin would agree

You're forgetting that he is one of us now! He has to play by the same democratic rules that voted him into the club!
