CRB information and wrongful arrest / information held

Evening.
Just a quickie here from a newbie to this forum.
I was arrested for allegedly having done something a few years back. Police got a warrant and took me and my belongings away.
9 months later, got it all back with a letter of no further action after traumatising the life out of me (and still haven't recovered and never will).
I never did what they stupidly thought I had, and never would.
Thing is, on all the paperwork re: this, it wrongly stated from the very beginning I was arrested for "possessing XYZ", not "suspicion of" possessing XYZ.
If you stop a car full of youths smoking cannabis, the police find the cannabis and they are charged with possession.
I was wrongly arrested for something I never did, and know have to live with the hideousness of not only having being arrested (having NEVER been in trouble ever before, and I'm not guilty now) and have my photo and finger prints on the police computer as well as the totally incorrect and upsetting wording that would show on a CRB as saying arrested for "possession of X", when that was/is wrong. I never did what they accused me of, and wouldnt. they never found anything, as I wouldnt do what they said I did and didn't, and now a potential employer doing a CRB check gets to see this totally wrong, unjust and unfair "accusation" against my name.
can I get this legally corrected, or even removed altogether?
is there anyone who can help?
wrote to the arresting officer but they just ignored me.

Absolutely no experience of this, but if it were me I would do the following:
- Put a complaint in writing, send special signed for delivery, to disputes team in CRB
- Ask that my complaint be addressed within X amount of working days and, failing that, seek legal advice.

it doesn't show on a CRB
This is my enhanced CRB
It was done in April 2011 and in January 2010 I was arrested and dumped in a cell for 7 hours for armed robbery. The police knew I hadn't done it as they told me I was too tall when they arrested me; they just thought a friend of mine had done it and decided that I was covering for him and was involved blah blah blah.
I was finger printed, told I could do x years as an accomplish, stuck in a cell for 7 hours, questioned for two hours, had DNA taken, photos taken, accused etc etc. Then I had to go to court and give evidence to try and get a friend sent down (just because they didn't have any actual physical evidence he'd been within a mile of the place)... but nothing on the CRB as I wasn't cautioned, charged, reprimanded or even received a warning; just told that they accepted I wasn't involved and sent me on my way.
So you're just worrying for no reason.0 -
and..... if / when it comes through. I'll update and tell you if it stopped me getting security clearance0

Many thanks.
Well, I haven't had to have a new CRB since it happened but the way the jobs market is going now, can't be far off.
Sorry to hear about your situation scheming_gypsy
I just can't believe they can tar someone with untruths and get away with it
Thanks also PinkLipgloss - as above, I haven't had anyone apply for a new CRB on me so don't know if this arrest would show, but I am also peeved with the fact the Police can get away with forever having me down as being in possession of X from the arrest all the way through the shambolic investigation - how they have put that and NOT "suspicion of...." :mad:0 -
Can I make any kind of Freedom of Information request from the Chief Constable of the local Police force?
Is this possible to request what information they hold on me as I believe they have incorrect information?

So you're just worrying for no reason.
You were "verbally" told and sent on your way? I was on bail for almost a year and had to go to "sign" on 4 times at two different Police stations like I was gonna fly abroad and do one
I had a letter of No Further Action (NFA) and a letter saying come and collect your belongings, from a freezing cold basement where stuff was just thrown around in evidence bags.... :mad:0 -
There's a BIG difference between being CHARGED and being CONVICTED and you haven't been convicted - have you?
So what would be the point of that?
eta you now say you've had a letter of No Further Action. So there won't BE anything to put on a CRB form.
So you haven't been done an injustice. Yes you've been put under stress; yes you have been inconvenienced. But you haven't been formally charged and tried and found guilty of anything.Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily Dickinson

Sorry, this is nearly a year ago, but it still smarts like hell.
yes, the NFA was a year ago. I wasn't charged or convicted, just basically here's a letter of NFA with incorrect wording and come and get your stuff.
The principle here is why do they keep my fingerprints and DNA and photograph on their ****ing database?
And why were they allowed to put "possession of X" when it is quite clearly incorrect. I can't afford £300 for an hour with a solicitor and its humiliating and soul destroying enough without having to tell someone new what happened, I just want the wording changed to "suspicion of", even though that is shocking enough.
I want wrong putting right   :mad:0 -
If you were gonna employ someone and it showed you were "arrested on suspicion of X", thats Hell enough, as admit it, most people think the Police don't arrest someone unless they have pretty good evidence first (ha!)
But to have it wrongly show "arrested for possession of X", when thats WRONG, is worse as people would definitely think he had X, but obviously got rid of it well as the Police couldn't find it and had to let them go as they couldn't find X.
Please dont just say let it go, I can't. I now have no respect for the Police and do not trust the law system in the UK, or probably the world. They even got a warrant from the Magistrates Court and 8 coppers (half of them CID) came into my flat like I was Hannibal Lecter or something, and led me away and into a van in cuffs in front of my neighbours. I am a quiet, law abiding citizen.

I wonder if LIBERTY could help me.

But no-one asks if you've ever been arrested...they ask if you have been convicted - and you haven't!
Look at SG's scanned CRB
Police record of Convictions, Cautions, Reprimands and Warnings.
Not ARRESTS
